Been wanting to get the VMware VCP certification for 2 years now. My last job sent me to an official VMware training class which made me eligible to take the test and get certified. Finally went ahead and took it yesterday and scored an 86%!

Got a couple friends over and celebrated by opening up my first ever batch of home brew -- a wheat ale brewed with honey.

All in all a great day! The only negative being that before I left for the test I reminded my boss why I was going. I first told him about the test a month ago. He said "VCP? VCP...." and acted confused. Told him it was the VMware certification. He nonchalantly replies "oh... good luck" and turns back to his workstation.

After coming back from the test NO ONE asked how I did. Man, do I feel LOVED!!!!

If the boss never knew what VCP was, why would he ever ask you how it went because it still wont mean anything to him/her.

Our team is just me, 3 other Sys Admins, and the boss. He's involved in the technical side of things as well and works on VMware, too.

He just wasn't familiar with the abbreviation "VCP" but he knows what VMware is quite well.

My guess is he's not pleased I got the cert. I came on board 4 months ago and stressed in my interview that although I didn't have experience with AD and Exchange, I was familiar with FC SANs and VMware. They offered me the job and said I could learn the MS stuff as I went along.

A couple months ago my boss tells me I was hired to do the stuff no one else wants to do and I won't get to do much with the SAN or VMware because two people with more seniority like doing that so they get all those projects/work even though I have more experience in VMware.

Now I'm a VCP so I imagine it can only look bad to have me here not working on what I'm good at, not to mention it would help land me a job elsewhere.
