Got my system put togther and it is running BEAUTIFULLY !!

I just upgraded from a PIII650@866 to a Athlon 1.4GHz system and it is running AWESOME! This is my first BIG switch to AMD and it is great! The last and ONLY time I've had an AMD chip was a K6-2 400 and it sucked ass so I was reluctant to go back. But I can say now, if you do some research you can build a cheap, fast and rock solid AMD system. I've got a SB Live! and it has caused ZERO problems. I love this machine and I haven't even tweaked it. The only thing I need now is a 36" rounded silver floppy cable. The KG7 has the connector at the very bottom of the board and my case (which is tall as hell) has the floppy drive at the very top. As for right now I don't even have it connected (it just won't reach) but I'd like to if anyone know where I can pick up such a cable. Anyway, mark up one more fast and stable as hell AMD machine that is up and running.


The only test I've ran so far is 3DMark2001 and scored a 4200+ (default 1024x768x32). Pretty nice.

Hi, I am interested in building a very similar system to your new one. I do alot of Adobe 2D graphic work. Do you recommend this type of system? Do you, by chance, use Adobe Premiere or Pinnacle DV200 with your new system? May I also ask, was it difficult to put together, for someone who has added components, but never put together a full system. Last question: Where did you get the components, and would you recommend the retailer to someone else?

Well I got my moatherbaord, CPU and PSU at Newegg.com, the SK-6 heatsink, ArticSilver II, and rounded ATA100 silver cables at Plycon.com and the memory at Crucial.com of course. All the other stuff I already had but most of it I got from Newegg.com too. The retailer I buy from are top notch and you won't go wrong with any of them.


The KG7 is really easy to set up but make sure you get registered memory so you'll have the ability to use up all the DIMM slots if you want to added extra memory in the future. Other than that, all you need are the VIA 4in1 drivers and AMD's AGP driver and you are good to go. Just make sure you don't install the VIA AGP driver when you install the 4in1, use the AMD AGP driver instead. Also to be on the safe side, if you have a SB Live!, install it on the 4th PCI slot. That's pretty much about it. I LOVE this board and I'd highly recommend it.

I don't use 2D graphic products (although I do have Photoshop 6.0) so I can't comment first had on the performance, but I'm sure it would be pretty damn fast.
