Wanted a Moto Q9 Global, but got a Samsung Blackjack II instead. The moto looked nice, but it was also ~6x the price, at least initialy: $40 out the door for the Samsung, vs. $250 for the Moto. I could purchase both Docs to go & Opera mobile, which the Moto comes with, and still come out well ahead :) .

So far I've only installed the gmail mobile client for e-mail, and both the GPS patch and Google Maps to test out the GPS function. What else would you reccomend having on here? I've got a 2GB microSD card in the device, and I could get a larger card, so space isn't an issue. I got the device primarily for work - somewhere to keep notes, and a way to help manage time - keep track of meetings and such when I'm away from my desktop. Finding ways to make it even more useful would just be icing on the cake :) Suggestions?

Actually, I don't have to worry about office '07 support. Not much, anyway. We use office '03 at work and, although I *have* a copy of Office '07, I don't care for it. I just upgraded to Vista last week, and haven't re-installed '07. I think I'll go with either OpenOffice or the old copy of Office XP that I've got.

EDIT: also, office mobile cannot create new documents, can it? It can only read and edit, as far as I'm aware. But all I have to do is keep a blank .doc or .xls file on the device and use 'save copy as' to get around that ;)

Im guessing it doesnt create them. The WM getting started site says it can open or edit office docs. Doesnt say create, so I'd say thats a no.

As far as other buisness type apps, I guess it depends on what type of buisness you are in. As for navigation, out of the free ones, MS live search is better imo than google maps. Theres also a program called NAV 4 all (spam filters blocked it, its all one word) thats free and does voice turn by turn prompts. Just remember that all those programs load maps from a data connection, so if you dont have unlimited data or are in areas without cell phone service, they wont be for you. IVe got iguidance, but I dont think they make a WM standard version, just WM pro (touchscreen). I do believe Garmin Mobile XT is avalible for WM standard.

Windows live search (better than google maps)
Windows live mail is pretty good too
A proper satnav program like route66 or tomtom
Opera 9.5 mobile beta web browser
TCPMP as a media player (will play pretty much anything)
Spb pocket plus just for usability
Spb diary for meetings

That should get you started! :D

My buddy at work got a slingbox, and watches tv & movies for a good part of the day on his blackjack. I'm jealous, because I can't do this.
