what exactly is truform? they say that the version of CS that comes with my 8500 is tuned to take advantage of truform... whats that mean? is there anything REALLY different between the retail CS i bought and this bundled ATI card?

EDIT: FYI... CS is the only game i play. how is truform any good in CS?

Basically.. truform rounds out the edges which are usually sort of jagged.. here's an example of what truform does

Before pic
After

Oh yeah and the CS models will be rounded the same way supposedly making them look more realistic. It does however screw up in some cases.. making some models look totally screwed up. I haven't seen truform in action up front though so i can't really say.

The retail version and the one that comes with the Radeon 8500 should be exactly the same.. they can both take advantage of the truform technology.. If you don't like it, you could always disable it.. I don't know the command though

dude... if all the CS characters get the same quality image that the dolphin got... that woul kick ass :D but i have a feeling even if that were the case... my FPS would just die. :p

Truform is a hardware function on the 8500, so it doesn't really slow down the card much. The 7500 has a software truform which does effect your frames alot.

There are certian problems with Truform though. In Serious Sam, for instance, it makes the shotgun, (before you pick it up), look like a big balloon. It's all swelled up and stuff. This happens pretty often in some games, and never in others, it depends on the game code. It's would be a great feature that would have pushed ATI into the lead, IMO, if it didn't require special game code, made you take a pretty steep performance hit, and only worked right half the time. That said, it might become a better feature later if some games begin to utilize it better. I personally hate seeing polys as much as I hate seeing jaggies.

truform can be used properly but most games that have it now don't use it right. They are quick, add on patches and they tend to round everything, instead of just people and some things.

As for performance hit, it can actually be a performance boost if used right. Lower quality models can be used, and then have truform enabled to bring it up to current levels. The boost would be significant.

alright, i just got the latest beta drivers for the 8500 from rage3d.com and installed them. i've been testing out different settings for the past hour or so and here is what i have. when i anisotropic filtering to 16x and anti-aliasing to 6x... i run my CS at 800x600 and my fps is around 60. the image quality is very nice and sharp and details. one thing tho... when i run around and kinda look left and right, it sorta seems like the picture is "shakey". tho my fps is at 60... its not smooth. i also notice this when i tone down my quality settings and pump up my resolution. at that point, my fps is at 98... yet when i walk and look left or right, the picture gets "shakey". anyone else experiencing this? i don't remember my voodoo5 being like that.

I've had that problem before. I should have said to make the adjustment in the game controls set-up. It's in the advanced properties. And I think you have to back-off the sensitivity a very small amount.

My son says the ATI counterstrike bundle is not full version because he can't get certain weapons & "New Game" option is greyed out.He has played the demo in the past & said it was the same.
I thought it was Full, anyone know for sure?

i have the CS from 8500 box. I don't have any problem with it. It lacks some maps in CS 1.0, but I downloaded the map files from google.

BTW, it's CS 1.3.

maybe it lacks some weapons, but i don't know. I have not met any problem with any server so far.
