This is pure non sense. I was walking in the hallways talking on my phone, then hung up and got in the classroom. The teacher was designating new seat, so everyone kind of stood around. I got to my new seat. I happen to have my cellphone in posession in a way it was visible to the teacher, so he confiscated my phone. People have had their cellphones taken away for playing with or talking on it during class which I find reasonable. I was not doing anything with it other than have it in my hand immediately after arriving to class. How can you justify "posession within teacher's eyesight" over his emotional impulsive reaction? There were other people playing Gameboy Advance, calculator games etc after he was calmed down and he didn't do anything. Lecture wasn't even started and I had just sat down when he bitched about my phone.
Furthermore, he threatens to impound phones and keep it until end of the year. As government employees, when did teachers who think they're holier than thou acquired the power to seize private property without a warrant? My understanding is any private person can not seize property and government employee can not unless there's an immediate threat of safety or have a warrant.
