Got my new Vertex SSD - What do you think of these scores?

Originally posted this in the Overclocking section, but it actually belongs in OC, Memory and OS sections :D I'm just primarily concerned with the performance gains from the Vertex and was wondering what you SSD experts think of these scores? (below)

Previously had WD Caviar Black 500GB as main boot drive with XP SP3 (32bit) at 3.6GHz
Now have OCZ 120GB Vertex and Windows 7 (64bit) at 3.54GHz (I lost some overclocking potential). Rest of components in my signature.

OCZ forums talks a lot about firmware 1.4. How do I know what firmware version my vertex is using and how do I know if TRIM is working? Do the 1.4 firmware have performance improvements too?

<--CrystalDiskMark -->

Vertex 120GB (read/write): Seq = 223/142, 512k = 162/126, 4k = 30/13
Seagate 7200.12 1TB: Seq = 114/105, 512k = 45/65, 4k = 0.6/0.9
WD Black 500GB: Seq = 68/71, 512k = 35/56, 4k = 0.4/1.45 (note Black still has XP on it)

<--PCMark Vantage-->

PCMark Suite: 12730
Gaming Suite: 11895
HDD Test Suite: 23203

<--3DMark Vantage-->

3DMark Score: Would not appear for some reason??
GPU Score: 6408
CPU Score: 14412

<--PCMark 05-->

PCMark05 Overall Score:
(3.54-W7-Vertex) : Would not complete graphics part to get whole score
(3.6-XP-Old HDD) : 9468
(2.83-XP-Old HDD): 8361

More PCMark05:

(3.6-XP-Old HDD)
CPU: 11596

HDD : 4800

(3.54-W7-Vertex)
CPU: 11302 (Lower)
Memory: 7450 (Higher)
HDD : 27214 (MUCH Higher) :eek::biggrin::biggrin:

<--3DMark 06-->

(2.83-XP-Old HDD): 3DMArk06 Score: 13240

(3.6-XP-Old HDD) : 3DMArk06 Score: 15960
SM2.0 Score: 5820
SM3.0 Score: 7212
CPU Score: 5727

(3.54-W7-Vertex) : 3DMArk06 Score: 14917 (Lower???) :eek::\
SM2.0 Score: 5653
SM3.0 Score: 6558

*Whew* that was a lot of benchmarking

Ran the AS SSD Benchmark. Looks like this benchmark prefers the Intel drives.

The final score is double, but the individual score break is a wash between the two. That doesn't make sense. Though the Intel certainly has better 4K performance which certainly helps a lot.

stick with intel
Intel scores almost double on AS HDD benchmark.

To late. I waited for a reply and got none. I went with ocz. Reading around a bit it looks like real world they might be pretty close and its 40gb larger.

I heard real world usage is much better on the intel than the ocz.
Honestly, it'd be hard to distinguish between the two anyways.

I would love to post my AS HDD result (score of 410) but this new forum won't allow direct image upload.

It seems to be putting more emphasis on the 4k-64thrd scores than the other ones, high sequential speeds are easy to attain while small file performance isn't, that's why its scoring them like that.
Here's my 160g x25 score

The Intel X25-M G2 80GB is a great drive for server use. I personally would save my money and go with the 60 and 120 GB Agility or Vertex for the desktop. In some ways, the Agility and Vertex are more well-rounded.

In real world use, only the X25-E [perhaps also the X25-M G2 160GB, with the latest firmware and boosted sequential write performance] and Agility/Vertex best traditional hard drives in sequential read/write speeds.

Unfortunately review sites are enamored by synthetic server benchmarks instead of real world desktop tests.

Just updated my drive to firmware 1.4 with TRIM and re-ran AS SSD benchmark a few times and I'm now consistently getting ~20MB/s faster seqential Write speeds (now at ~155MB/s) and ~5MB/s faster Read speeds (now at ~225MB/s), overall my score improved 5 points to 171. Will post screenshot when I get home from work.

MLC drives arent meant for server usage. These are desktop drives.

I was referring to the SLC drives. They are meant for enterprise use. Overall the X25-M/E was designed with servers in mind. Although they aren't without their problems, which probably haven't been explored enough... mostly having to do with stuttering and time-outs under heavy writes.

I ran a quick bench on my X-25 160GB G2 with the latest firmware.
It didn't quite match with some other benchmarks I have seen around regarding random writes and reads. Is it normal to have random writes faster than reads?

Yup...that's precisely what makes the Intel drives unique.

I see you run both Intel and OCZ drives; what are your thoughts between the 2 in real world use? I could care less about benchmarks.

I keep getting mixed results from users as to expected. Is there really a difference between the intel and agility drives for normal real world use? I am trying to figure out if the intel drives are worth the additional cost.

Also does anyone know when the next gen of ssd's are supposed to be coming out? If its not too far off, I may just hold off a while longer. I would never miss the gained performance as I have never experienced it, ha ha ha

i was restraining myself with the "next gen is coming" argument, but i broke down and ordered an x-25m. i'll just move it to my laptop when i get a new one for my desktop.
