Went to Leith Toyota here in Raleigh just to "look" at their trucks. Ended up spending the whole afternoon there and finally walked away with a 2002 Toyota Tacoma TRD SR5 Prerunner for $17,400 out the door. It has 49K miles on it and is in great condition. Just a paint scrape near the front bumper and two paint dings that I could see. Everything else is just awesome. I love this truck!!! Traded in my POS Ford Contour and got $1750 for it which is more than KBB trade-in value ($1300).

All in all I think I did pretty good. The salesmen/women are your regular salespeople, they haggle but it was all pretty friendly. Not high pressure, but it's definitely not Carmax. We did the typical back and forth, this my final offer, say hi to the sales manager, etc... but I stuck to my guns and got a decent deal I think.

I think I'm going to buy a Hidden Hitch and a bed extender next. Then I'll start making payments again. It was nice having my Contour paid off. Sigh, another 60 months to go...

EDIT: PICS!!!

You know the sales people were really good when you walk onto a car lot just to "look" around and 6 hours later you drive off owing $17,400 for a vehicle you never intended to buy and feel good about it.

Crew cab? Extended cab? V6 or four cylinder? i've always liked the tacomas, the new ones ('05) are looking very nice.

I was intending to buy one sooner rather than later. This just happened to be a great price. I've been doing my homework for the past couple weeks and was planning on buying one from Fred Anderson Toyota but it was a little high. Plus these guys worked with me and got me a great deal. I feel great about it and I don't regret a thing.

Double cab V6 with the TRD package. I saw a new 05 Tacoma, but I don't like what they've done with it. It looks bloated and bigger. I'll probably warm up to it, but I'm planning on keeping what I just bought for a while. No more cars, or my wife will confiscate my wallet.

dude that's a nice freakin truck. That's what i want to get. What does the SR5/TRD package entail? I was looking at the 04 prerunners but without the double cab. Too bad they don't get very good gas mileage.

Thanks man. The Turd package includes a better suspension and bigger tires. SR5 is more of a convenience package, power lights/doors/windows etc... At least I think that's what I think it includes, I didn't ask. You can get a Tacoma without the TRD package that looks exactly the same as what I got. They had one on the lot for $23K which was out of my price range. The gas mileage does suck though, and that's why I'm not getting bigger tires. It's gonna be my daily driver so I need to change my driving habits.

VERY nice truck. I was just looking at some used vehicles myself online at some local dealerships, as I pay my car off in less than 2 weeks. Never thought I'd see the 60th payment :D. My car is running good at the moment, so I have to resist the urge to get a new vehicle and save some money for a few months.

Yes, resist the urge! I was successful at it for a year and a half. But my wife and I really started getting into gardening and the Contour and Accord just weren't cutting it when we had to transfer lots of stuff. Always having to borrow friends trucks got old too. We were able to make a significant cut in our debt when I paid my car off, there's no way I could have bought this truck if we hadn't.
