got my new system complete

AMD xp 2600 m @ 2.3 ghz
768 meg ddr400 corsiar
3 160 gig hdds
1 37 gig raptor
ABIT nf7-s board
made by ati 9800 pro 256 agp

new system
ABIT nf-m2 inveiw
xms 64x2 5000 CPU
2 gigs of mushkin ddr2 800
2 gigs of a-data ddr800
saphire ati 1600 pcie 256
500 gig sata drive
37 gig raptor

overall this system rocks the house in tasks such as DVD CD decoding and writing file transfers are way quick and apps open almost instantly.

cons are few but I don't think the x1600 is any faster than the 9800 pro but overall great build.

how long do the DVD encodings take to complete? I have a s754 3700+ DTR, Abit NF8-V, 2x512 Ballistix 2-2-2-6 system which take close to 1 hour to complete a movie, and a P4 520, Asus P5VDC-MX, 1x1GB DDR2 4200 system. the P4 takes about half the time. If the AM2 X2's are good at it, I'd like to stay with AMD on my next upgrade...

the 37gb version of the raptor is sort of holding you back just a bit as it wasnt fast to begin with... try swapping that with the latest 74 gb stepping.

it takes about 15-20 minutes to rip or encode a DVD and cost about 700 bucks before I sell off the old parts.
I am putting my system on a 3gb/s sata drive so that should make things snappier

Actually the c2d is faster at encoding/decoding than the amd x64. I went from an opteron 175 to E6400 and it is faster at doing this. If you've already got an x64 system then I wouldn't spend the bucks to change however if you're going to upgrade your mb and all then I'd seriously look at going c2d especially since the price drop.
