Got my new purple Droid Razr.....Now I know why everyone hates blur

My job said for me to get a work phone. I personally own a SGS2 on Tmo so I went and got a purple droid razr cuz its thin and if I have to carry 2 damn phones I want a thin one. Well, the device itself is pretty damn cool but blur is shit. I mean, really, its got to be the worse POS ever.
 
I wonder what is going to happen when google actually starts to have a real hand in Motorola I mean they are about to actually own the company so you would assume that blur would die pretty soon

Yes. I willingly ran a TW4 rom on my galaxy s. Everything about it was smoother and better looking than pre ICS stock android. The truth is that a lot of AOSP 2.x android applications are butt ugly and unintuitive.

Can someone explain to me what is so terrible about MotoBlur? I own a OG Droid, so I have no direct experience, but I've know a few people with Droid Xs, and one with a Droid Bionic, and MotoBlur seems to live up to its 'skin' name, it barely changes anything...

Razr's have the locked bootloader, so any AOSP builds will be the usual shitty Frankenstein builds using the Moto kernels. ICS leaks from Moto may be tweaked and used though. You bought the wrong phone for modding. 😛

True. I may just wait for ICS to hit some time next year. The company bought it for me so I aint bitching. Its was either this or an iphone 4s or the rezound. I almost got the rezound for the earbuds but wanted thin instead.

Ive been running tests between it and my sgs2. The sgs2 is killing it so far. LTE is just way overrated. hspc+ in my area is at least twice as fast. I am loving the razr screen tho. I dont know how people can say the sgs2 has a much better screen. Im not saying it better or worse, just different. gonna get out netflix. they said the razr does it in hd.

EDIT...Holy crap. netflix does play in HD on the razr. sweet.

The SGS2s and the Razrs both have SAMOLED Plus screens, yes? With the Razr having a qHD resolution.

Prepping my Tbolt for sale right now and the lower res screen was immediately disgusting.
 
So Motoblur is the problem, not the fact that it is purple? How purple are we talking here? Like purple purple, or a dark sort of plum purple?

Its a dark purple worthy of samuel jackson. Its very nice looking. Was tired of black and i dont do white. Saw the purple and thought it was cool.

Playing with it a little more makes me glad my personal phone is a sgs2. Its so much faster the the razr and i havent even put anything on the razr yet. I do love the higher rez of the razr though. Overall its a good phone. Being free from work is even better.

Gotcha, my google-fu was failing me at the time I apparently couldn't string words together.

That's isn't too terrible looking, I wouldn't mind seeing smartphones in more colors.

The screen on the RAZR isn't SAMOLED Plus. It's pentile in an arrangement we haven't seen before. Most reviews point out that text is jaggy and there is a green hue to it.
 
Every RAZR I've ever seen in person looks way to yellow to me. I percieve it as yellow anyways. I just haven't seen a RAZR screen that looks RIGHT.
 
While I like the look of touch wiz better (this is a personal thing - i know many folks dislike it) I actually found the feature set on the moto to my liking (this is not to say I prefer it over touch wiz just that it isn't nearly has heavy handed as older versions and it actually has a few nice feature. Btw if you are in the exchange period you shoudl consider the Maxx - the extra battery life is nice.

This razr is growing on me. Getting used to blur, its not as bad as i mentioned when I started this thread. Still prefer TW but this phone is pretty damn nice. It is noticably slower than the SGS2 tho and not just network speed. overall the gpu is noticably slower and the broweser is the pits. its extremely slow. will check other browsers to see.
