Got my new laptop- maybe tampered with? PICS PICS PICS

I got my laptop in the mail yesterday. I've been preparing my desktop for erasure- putting all my stuff on an external and stuff.

When I unpacked the laptop, I noticed a scuff on the Windows COA sticker, which is also slightly bubbled. I was slightly worried, but I let it go as the laptop worked fine. Tonight I noticed that the back cover for the CPU and RAM was mis-seated, as if someone had taken it off and not put it back on right. When I looked in, I saw that the RAM module was a PC4200- I was expecting a 5300 based on the spec given in the offer to buy more RAM for it as a package deal. I'm worried that my laptop might have been tampered with. I'm waiting for a Newegg rep now. What do you think of this? Highly unusual for a new laptop, eh?

Pics are here, with COA info obscured:

You caused the damage. Newegg does no wrong, and you should be banned for suggesting so.

Seriously though..

That COA looks normal, the newer COS's have no adhesive in that are. I helps the COA rip if someone tries to pull it off.

And as far as the door being misaligned, and the mem being "different".. It's an Acer - One step in the notebook quality ladder above ECS.

You get what you pay for.

Honestly, almost every Dell I have received in the past few months has had the same issue, so it isn't just you and it isn't just one manufacturer. Even my home Inspiron is scraped on the COA.

True. Mine has the same rub marks.

1. COA is normal, note Windows-logo shaped hole and lack of adhesive in whole middle strip.
2. Door being misaligned might have been caused by a bump in shipping, that's the only thing worth complaining about.
3. Acers are cheap for a reason, one of which being they skimp on parts. PC2-4200 is exactly what you should be getting in an Aspire 5100.

2 acer laptops that i know bought from best buy (5100 i think) had the same cover misalignment problem. so that part is normal i guess.

Well, I ended up getting offered a refund or replacement. I had my eye on a slightly different model, which is $4 less, yet has a 120GB HDD instead of 80GB. I asked if they could replace but substitute that one in- they couldn't, so I opted for the refund and ordered the other model.

I probably wouldn't have done so had I checked this thread first, but I'm glad it's going through anyway.

Why blur the key?

You go ahead and post some legit CoA keys and see how fast they aren't activated.

Edit: Did they change the CoA's lately? Mine don't look like that.

And my XP MCE CoA looks exactly like the ones pictured, they just say "Media center 2005" instead of "Home".

Your COAs don't look like that becuase you are buying old software. The "new" COA has been defacto standard on all MS products for over a year.

That would explain it. But the most recent machine I bought was in February this year, and it had the "old" style CoA on the case. For the record, none of those were purchased as "software", those are all CoAs from cases. I pulled the stickers to protect them.

What's with all the Acer hate?

Am I just the only happy customer? What's wrong with an affordable laptop?

My main desktop is worth $2K, a $600 laptop does me just fine.
