So, I have been itching to dump my tf101 and ordered a galaxy tab 2 7". I also ordered a new ipad 3, for work, really. So, before I hand off the ipad to developers so they can create some inhouse app that will basically store all of our fabric in one nice 6gb app I get to play with the ipad 3 for a couple of weeks. Ironically, both the galaxy tab 2 7" and the ipad came delivered to my desk at the same time. Sooooo, being the dick that I am I decide to do a head to head comparision with them thinking that the ipad would leave the galaxy tab 2 7" in the dust. Wrong. Now, yes, the ipad smokes the tab 2 in speed but you know what? I loaded up the same apps, youtube, netflix, web sites. And the tab 2 7" smoked the ipad 3 in loading of same app, bufferring in same app and such. On the same wireless network the tab 2 loaded netflix, launched the movie and played it back before the ipad could even get me to the netflix menu. And IMO the same movie looked better to me on the galaxy tab 2 than the ipad with all of its retina display and all. I am sure its because the screen is smaller so it may appear to be sharper than the ipad 3. So, I go to youtube and load up some 1080p HD clips and run both at the same time and I am having a hard time seeing a big enough difference in quality. I am sure the retina ipad 3 will rock in propritery apps but for everyday stuff I am really digging the tab 2 7". Anyone know of reference video I can test for both? I am really eager to see the retina display on the ipad 3 before I give it to the dev dept.

I had a Tab 2 7in, ended up selling it before my N7 arrived. Its not a bad tablet, but the N7 was just better. Except for the fact that the Tab 2 had an sd card slot. Big plus.

Google HD test video though, you'll find lots of identical samples in different containers to test.

I was going to go n7 but the lack of an sd card and rear facing speaker killed it for me.

What was wrong with your TF101?

I'm returning my N7 tomorrow. It offers no benefit over my TF101, other than being able to play Tegra3 games, and 1080p content, which is worthless since its a 7" 720p display with no HDMI out. Installed 2 big games and a few small apps, down to 2gb free space on the 8gb model.

I have JB CM10 ROMs on them both. No discernable performance difference between the two tablets. CM10 really wakes up the TF101.

Tegra 3 can play videos that the Tegra 2 cannot, most 720p MKV and x264 included. This weakness is a big frustration of mine with my GTab8.9, which I otherwise love.

Not just 720p, but 1080p x264 works fine too, as RockinZ28 said.
