And I have to say WOW. I'm really impressed.
The Dawn demo is blowing my mind.
I can turn on all the special effects in Planetside and not slow down at all.
My roomate got his Radeon 9800 Pro 256 today to. We opened our boxes at the same time
then we played lightsabers with them for a sec, then installed them.
A house divided. Will be back later with a more indepth review.

Lol I`m waiting for the FX5900 Value version,if it does bad in reviews then I`ll probably get a 9700NP,I`ve just received my Gothic 2 game :D that`s is crying for a decent video card before I even install the game .

Back on topic I`m glad you`re happy with your new FX5900 card,it`s always nice to hear about happy owners on both sides rather then flaming,it would be nice if both ATi and Nvidia owners could be happy and stop flaming each other, but then I guess they`ve nothing better to do ,they could always play Gothic 2 that`ll keep them quiet for awhile ;).

can you do some benches of custom timedemos vs standard in games like Q3, UT2003 etc.

i want to know if B3D's and firing sqaud's results are horsecrap or not

Q3
"Once again we're seeing different results than what we've seen in the past, although this time we've upgraded to the latest point release, in addition to using our own new demo."

Serious Sam
In our original GeForce FX 5900 Ultra preview article, the RADEON cards didn't finish ahead of the GeForce FX 5900 Ultra until 1600x1200. But with the detail level cranked up to "quality" and our own custom demo, the RADEON cards take the throne as early as 1024x768x32, where the 5900 Ultra trails by 6%. At the same resolution, the FX5900-TD128 is down to the FX5900 Ultra by 10%. This gap opens up to 13% by 1600x1200, while the margin between RADEON 9800 PRO and GeForce FX 5900 Ultra doubles to 12%.

Hey,

I'm considering gettin that 5900 ultra. I was wondering if you think its a lot better than the 9800 pro to be worth an extra $130?

The 9800 pro and 5900 ultra are the same price. The 128 MB versions are 399 while the 256 MB versions are 499 and 128 MB of V Ram is all you need and then some.

Mitsarugi, thanks for posting. Ignore the "gloat"-callers, they're just jealous. ;) I look forward to an update after you and your roommate have had time to play with the two cards.

Regs, he's asking how to optimize your jealousy. Apparently he found out how to do it all on his own. ;)

I would like you two to do some benchmarks on the cards......one with no AA and AF and some with AA and AF!

What you should of said is "no not really, ATI just sent me the pre-production R420 w/512mb, with Catalyst 5.0"
lol.
Seriously though, i still cant work out which is faster, the 9800pro 256mb or the 5900ultra. The initial reviews all say that the 5900ultra is faster, but later reviews says that its the other way round.
Ah well. I wont lose sleep over it. There still isnt a game that my 9700pro cant run in high res w/ FSAA&AF smoothly.
