Hmm never considered that someone might try to steal it. The damage they'd do to get to it would be more than what it's worth. People are assholes.

While I would not say crime is that high here, car theft is VERY high. People check doors in every neighborhood nearly nightly. Though typically they only steal if the doors are unlocked, but a camera might be attractive enough to break windows.

The person smashing windows of cars to grab visible stuff probably doesn't know that the camera is $50...

yup.

back in like 2004-5, I had someone do about $500 worth of damage to my car to steal a $10 portable CD player I left out on the passenger seat.

Just wire it to the lighter, assuming the lighter turns on and off with the car. Or failing that, the ignition switch wire that goes to your radio.

Thank you Mr obvious.

I was talking about hiding the wire behind the interior fashion and not fucking up the airbag.

can you use it to snap and post a photo of your tires? We need to make sure they are inflated to proper pressure.

A few things to note about dash vids:

It makes everything look relatively tame since you cannot feel the inertia of the car. The very beginning of the video it shows me stopping pretty quickly since I was barely able to see the line for the red. It looks like a normal stop on the dashcam.

@ 5:42 you see me slowing down to merge behind a camry. I should have merged sooner but my normal driving times means that there's never any cars in the exit lane so this one took me by surprise. This braking action was once again more abrupt than the video shows. This is also a great example of why everyone needs to double check all assumptions about other's actions on the road. The camry looked like it was changing lanes to the right, leaving me a clear lane. It decided to come back to the left almost right away.

Plates are visible but you have to be slightly closer than your normal naked eye viewing range to see them.

Pretty good investment. Now I just have to forget that it's there.
