I didn't know they had 18" subs :Q

The biggest I've seen is 15"...and that's big.

18" is child's play

Capable of driving a 48" square "cone."

Well I'm not looking to kill my audience... so my sub should do just fine.

I haven't had much experience with JBL.. I looked at some of their stuff, but I guess I didn't see anything that really made my jaw drop.

A good investment that may serve you very well for a long lifetime

WOW that's an investment that paid itself off over and over again! :Q
Remember the old EAW BH-500's?? I've got a pair (used to have 3 pairs), bought from a friend who was the original owner 14 years ago, and I thought I got a lot of miles out of those!(BTW, I replaced the original RCF's with new RCF LFX400's).

Ok, so I tried it out in the basement (don't worry, not by the computers)...

HOLY CRAP... I don't know if I broke anything, but if I would have turned it up any louder something would have.

I had it at about half on the amp and about half on the mixer... absolutely crazy!

Nice!

I got a pair of ~15 year old Cerwin Vega D9 speakers that still put out some serious sound.

damn.....i work as a mobile dj service as well, and bass is good, but that thing is just too huge to justify the use as 'mobile' i have a set of old community's that have quad 15"s in a push/pull config that put out more bass than i could need and they're 100lbs each....i only take them when i'm at at a really big place. otherwise, my peavy sp-2's work fine, or i can take my pair of single 18" community subs that only weigh 80/per (then again, they prolly don't put out the bass of that thing, since they're half the size.....)

damn though...how do u call that mobile? i mean i can't get that into the bed of my truck w/out someone else there to help, so that would be useless to me

What are the dimensions of your room? Because of the wavelengths of sound in the range of 40 Hz to 20 Hz, you have to be a minimun of 12 feet away from the speaker to hear it. Otherwise only your neighbors are going to get the value of that subwoofer.

do you have experience in this department????

40 hz, so, we have v=(wavelength*frequency)
so @ 32F speed is 331m/s
so 331m/s=X*40
331/40 = 8.25 meters.
(so yea, your wavelength is correct, but actually a bit small)
now at 8.25 meters, that is the WHOLE wavelength. you dont NEED the whole wavelength just to hear the sound. ever been in a real H/T where movies drop down to 20hz all the time?

plus this is for a dj station. not in home.

other things that effect sound, would be, reflections, the acoustical environment. etc.

in my car, windows shut, doors shut, i can hear down to 30 hz no problem. and I KNOW my car is not 8m interior length.

Paulson doesn't use the C-V sub in his room. He's a D.J. and uses it for parties, dances, etc. That sub isn't made for home use.

Regardless, he is incorrect in stating that there's a minimum distance at which you can hear particular frequencies.

Think about ear canal headphones, they sit like 1/2" from your ear drum. Even if you call it an inch, you wouldn't be able to hear frequencies below ~13.5Khz.

I'd be scared to see what that thing could do. I have a Klipsch 15", and that almost got my roommate and I evicted from our apartment building. We had noise complaints from throughout the 3 floor complex. You could probably get complaints for an entire block with that thing.

Wow! You are going to rock your whole neighborhood! Hopefully you've got a decent receiver/amp to drive the thing.
