Got my laptop back from the service department today...

I ordered an HP ZT3000 from HP's website in January and it's worked just fine until this past weekend when the keyboard went berzerk. Long story short, I sent it back to HP Monday and it got back here with the keyboard replaced this morning. Mechanically, everything seems just fine and it works again but there's a huge scratch that goes all the way through the paint on the cover of the laptop. Here's a pic of it. Not the best quality since my camera isn't good for up-close shots but I think it shows the damage well enough. There are some other small scratches on the case from general use, but nothing this big nor were they caused by the repair department at HP. Is it worth my time to even try and get something done about this scratch? I know it's simply cosmetic but it only seems fair to me that my laptop be returned in the same condition as I sent it in. If it were you, would you even bother complaining to HP? Thanks.

I would complain especially with the amount of money you spend on laptops. get somethign free out of it or send it in again for replacement or something.

still doesnt help email pcmagazine or pcworld, they usually do articles on problems, once they get in to help the manufactures just want to kiss your butt so they don't sound like bad guys on the magazines.

Absolutely, I deal with this thing all the time. Call them up and tell them that your laptop has come back from the repair shop with a huge scratch on the back. Don't go nuts, be reasonable, and call them ASAP- you don't want to leave it too long as the person you speak to will most likely start doubting that it occurred at their workshop 😉

Sounds nasty, but it's true. Anyway, call them, explain the situation, they should get it sorted out pretty quick for you. The service centre I have to send certain makes of laptops to is pretty reasonable about this kinda thing, and so HP should be too.

Another question... if I wanted to wait a couple of weeks before sending it back, is something like that possible? It's probably in my best interest to get it taken care of as quickly as possible so that they don't try and tell me that it was something that I caused. I can probably get by without it next week since it's finals week, so I could send it back even as early as tomorrow or Monday.

I don't know if waiting is such a good idea. Anyways, ask HP about it, we are not HP.

Send it back as early as possible. The longer you leave it, the greater the risk that they'll say it's something you did. We have a policy where you have to report that a machine has a fault up to three days after it's "repaired" otherwise it's a new repair.
