Yeah I think it may not be getting to hot because of Vysnc as well. I did play more and while the game was still running BF3, I clt alt del to see what temp it was at using evga's precision tool and it was around 70-72. As for a big upgrade from a 6950, well to be honest what the 580 is giving me is steady rock solid frames at 60. It never moves. The 6950 I had would go from 45-60 depending on the map. And that was with a max overclock on the card to. The 580 is at stock. Am I happy I got it yes. The price though well that is tough to call.

My settings are almost the same except I use SSAO instead. I found with HBAO my frames would dip from 50-60. With SSAO it is pretty much at 60 all the time..

I got the Galaxy 580 off newegg when it was on sale. $420 after rebate, and it has the 3-fan arctic heatpipe cooler on it. Temp never goes above 50 when I set the fan to full speed (which is still barely audible, full speed is like 1500 RPM I think).

In BF3 I can play at full ultra settings but I think the framerate often goes below 30. It's fine for single player but for multiplayer I like consistent high framerate so I knock deferred AA down to 2x and turn off motion blur. This gives me ~40 fps average I think. If I want really good framerates I turn deferred AA off and then its 60+ constant.
