Got my Gateway FPD2185W

I am pretty pleased with it so far. Picture is great and its only hooked up through VGA, plan on getting a DVI cable later this week. The left side of the screen seems a tad bit brighter than the right, but I wouldnt have noticed it if I didn't read about it in a review. Oh well, in this day and age no LCD monitor is perfect.

Tell me what you think

Wait, what LCD doesn't come with a DVI cable?? 😕

And you really can't tell by the pic but I've heard it's a nice monitor. But I like my VX2025 😉

you have checked for dead pixels and backlight bleeding? if you can tell that the left side of the screen is a tad bit brighter than the right that probably means that it has some backlight bleeding on the left. what you need to do make the room competely dark turn off lights shut blinds what ever you need to do to make the room dark. than make sure the monitor is on a completely back screen make sure it's full screen. I recommend the Nokia Monitor Test and choosing colors than go to the black one. see if you see any light coming thru the sides or corners if you can see the light "bleeding" thru than you have some backlight bleeding problems from there I would highly suggest sending it back because it's a defect. If the screen looks competely equally dark no "light" bleeding thru the corners or sides and what not than you have a good monitor.

i have not one dead pixel. Its not terrible backlight bleeding but there is a bit. Not sure its a "defect" as the all seem to perform the same way. As shown in the extremetech review as well:

2nd pic, the left is a bit brighter. So I wouldnt say the specific monitor is a "defect", just shows that they all do it.

Got a 9 out of 10 in the review.

backlight should not bleed thru the panel it's a defect you payed a large amount of money for that monitor and shouldn't take any less than the best.

edit: yes, the keyboard and mouse are nice i have the same keyboard along with a MX-518 if we are on that subject why don't you have mouse pad and did you skoot your keyboard and mouse forawrd cause it doesn't seem like you can move that mouse that much from there.

Unless he has the sensitivity cranked up 😛

The Gateway 2185's are nice monitors...but as mentioned be aware of bleeding from the corners and left side. I had mine for 3 weeks before I sent it back due to gradient problems "i.e., ghosting around a bright object..."

You can check yours here. The top section should be smooth with no banding. Mine 2185 had terrible dithering problems...hope you fare better then me. I went through 4 Dell 2005's, the Gateway 2185 and a Apple Cinema before I setteled on my Samsung...but love is in the eyes of the beholder.

i got the monitor new of ebay for $476 plus $30 for shipping. This was like a week before the prices dropped to $499.

So now the monitors can be had at local places such as Best Buy and Circuit City for $499.

Just hooked up my DVI cable, and wow, there is a difference just in windows.

This monitor was a big step up from my Samsung 710N.
