Are you confusing driver's education training with your license test?

WTF kind of training doesn't include navigating left turns through a major intersection?!?

You're misunderstanding what I'm saying. I said that I cannot recall encountering any left turn lanes with a yield on green. How could we ever practice such a thing when there weren't any? I sure as hell know there were none where I grew up, but I also don't remember any in New York. There may have been a random one or two in the middle of the city, but I rarely ventured there.

All the times that I can remember waiting to turn left, I sat there with a red arrow staring me down. :p

There will not be a green arrow that has a yield on green. Purpose of the arrow is that the turn is protected from crossing traffic from any direction.

When a signal that was a protected green goes to a full green; then you should expect to yield on green. You are making a left turn; the opposing traffic is straight through - they have the right of way.
