Meh.
I'm not going to make excuses for it, since I realized I got caught before I got pulled over.

Was caught speeding, doing 45; in a 30 zone(no it wasn't a residential area). Since it was my first he only wrote it up for 40 in a 30. On top of that my insurance expired last week; so I have an additional ticket to pay for that.

I will say one thing though; I really wish that these cities I drive through on may way to work would come up with speed compromise for this road. I drive through 5 cities on the same road and there is 5 different speed limits posted ranging from 30 to 45 varying between which city your in. It's highly annoying.

Anyway, bye bye $150. ($125 + add. $25.)

At least in my state if you show up to the court house with proof of valid insurance they'll drop those charges.

That seems like a low ticket for driving without insurance.. I think that runs $400+ around here. Hell I paid more in fines by slowly rolling through a stop sign on my bicycle.

Did your insurance *expire* or did you just not have a current slip with you?

If you just didn't have the up-to-date verification, take it down to the PD/court house and they'll void the ticket, no need to go to traf. court

Were you driving through a small town on the highway?

This is what driving in Texas is like. I'll be going 70 on the highway. Then for no apparent reason you'll see a sign for 60, then 50, then 45, then 40, then you see a shack, then 35, then you see an abandoned gas station, 30, then you see two houses, 40, then you see a collapsed house, then 45, then 50, then 60, then 70.

You might have a get out of jail free card.

In Michigan, cities have to prove that the speed limit they set is done by scientific means either by a test or by the number of access points per 1/2 mile.

It'll require some legwork on your part. You might have to go to trial and/or subpoena documents and/or obtain them through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Google "Michigan Public Act 85"

cops need to raise money somehow...

its not like we pay taxes to pay their OT salaries to harass us on the roads or anything like that
