Got pulled over for 46 in a 30 on the way to school...my only excuse is that I had to speed up in order to pass a bunch of bikers so that I wouldn't stay in the oncoming traffic lane too long.

I'm most likely just going to take the defensive driving course and avoid the points.

flame me/tell me you don't care

I'm a chronic speeder too, but only in places I know.
I hardly go 10 over unless everyone else is doing it. Also a radar detector helps.

I try to sick it at 5 over. 10 over on one street (I know where all the "cop spots" are :D). Up to 15 over if I'm on a major interstate highway.

I wonder if they make you watch the fried chicken video in driving classes around the country. It's definately a well known video for speeders in Northern Illinois.

I got my first speeding ticket back in august for doing 74kmh in a 50kmh, got the cop reduced it to 65 in a 50, then i went to court and ended up paying a $50 donation. I had my G2 (second stage) for only 3 months when i got caught.

You had to pay a donation? Did the court force you to donate some money to the...government?

When I got my first ticket, I went to court and asked to have it "taken under advisement". It meant that if I got no more tickets in x days, then I was free and clear (minus the court costs which were about $50 or so). The courts are less likely to do that to folks who make a habbit of speeding (there are other ways to get out of those), but for somebody with no "record", you have an excellent chance. Dress nice for court, be polite and honest, and maybe you'll get off with no points.

well the cyclists were taking up far more than their bike lane, so given that the street was 1 lane in each direction, I had to edge into the other lane in order to get by (there were no cars coming at the time)

Are you posting this for the pity and understanding of ATOT, or the judgement? Unfortunately for you, you will not get the former from me. You received a speeding ticket for speeding. Do not speed, and you will not get a speeding ticket. There, I solved your problem.

If you're smart you'll learn the lesson now. The $50-$200 fine is just the first day of class. Wait until the final exam when you have to get insurance with multiple speeding tickets.

It took me 3 tries to pass that test, and my insurance is about $200/6mo more because of it... luckily the first one drops off in less than a year. That might lower it before I've paid a total of $1000 in fines and insurance just because I wanted to be home doing nothing faster.

Yes, it's a crock of crap, but it's a crock of crap that I agreed to in order to have the privledge of driving.
