Got my first negative feedback :(

Well I dunno if I'm allowed to mention this site here, but I got my first negative feedback on thee biggest auction site on the internet.

What happened was this. I sent this guy like 5 emails over the course of 2.5 weeks and he never responded. Finally the third week, I filed a non-payment dispute. 4 days after the non-payment dispute the guy says he's was on vacation and he'll send payment tomorrow. After another 7 days or so, still no payment (guy is in NJ and I'm PA so it doesn't take that long even if he sent it snail mail) nor additional email so I send him another 2 email (separated by 2 days). No response. After 30+ days from the bidding, I sent him a final email and invoice saying to please pay for the items to avoid negative feedback.

5 days after the email I just went and gave him some negative feedback. He retaliated with the following "Don't trust, sent moneyorder to address provided. No product, i am out 60 bucks" which is completely false. If he sent it, he never told me and I never recieved it. It 40 days after bid closing!!!

What POs me is that he doesn't take any time to respond my email and then retaliates with a completely defamatory feedback. I filed a complaint and made my feedback private for the time being...

any suggestions on how to deal with this? Is it really a good idea to make my feedback private or just add my comment?

PS addl info
I have a like 45 feedback about 75% from sales all positive for 6 years till now.
He has like 18 feedback, 75% from buying

update 4/7
No responses from Ebay yet. Does it usually take this long for them to respond?

take him to Judge Judy and tell him to suck it!

Uhm, isn't there an arbiter/help desk to resolve such things?

Well I submitted a dispute, but I'm wondering if anyone has had any success with this. Also, I'm not sure whether to keep my feedback private for the time being or keep it public with my comment.

if you sell enough on ebay, no matter how hard you try...you will inevitably encounter some bitter asshole that is beyond reasoning and will leave a negative eval.

Well, hire some thugs, kill his whole family, feel happy. For every 10 good person, there's an asshole, deal w/ it.

If you really want to prove your side, keep every email and respond back with a "See this website: blah.com/ebay" which explains everything.

Lesson learned - don't post negative feedback until just before the deadline.

ahhh I never knew there was a deadline, so if I put feedback right before the deadline, he can't retailiate?

Well lesson is learned, but what can I do now that I'm in this predicament?

I like my one negative feedback. I think it kind of says, "Go ahead ang give me a negative, I don't give a rat's ass."

Yup, if you have enough positive you should be fine. Just tell your story to anyone who bids on your items if they ask about the negative. As a bidder, I wouldn't be put off by a single negative if you have sufficient positive as well....also depends on the feedback of the person who left you the negative, how many and what type of feedback does he/she have?

it happens. i have two negatives ... and the two users are not even registered ebay users anymore. just add your comment and don't sweat it. if he has a low rating anyway in comparison to you, they'll probably trust you over him.

Wear it like the red badge of courage it is. 100% positive people are creepy. I'm much more likely to buy from someone with a few negatives scattered in there just because it's clear that they're actually REAL feedbacks.

Best to just throw a brick at his truck.

I've been a member of ebay for 5 years, don't buy or sell much... I only have 17 (all positive) feedbacks altogether... what if I won one of your bids ? You wouldn't trust me ?

No offense, but it's called Paypal. lol

I never accept money orders/checks period anymore. Too much of a hassle.

Just wait till paypal pulls the money back one of these days because the buyer disputed the transaction with their credit card. You will be SOL and paypal won't give a rats ass.

I actually only accept money orders and paypal now, no checks. It really wasn't about payment method, the guy didn't even respond me for like 3 weeks... when he finally did, I don't know why he promised to pay because he didn't.

I had my first negative as well. I requested the user's info and tried to contact but was given a wrong #. If you go under the HELP option, and type in feedback removal policy, you can actually have that feedback removed if they provided you with incorrect information.

I think he was refering to one of those people with like 1000+ all positive feedback.

How is that even possible?
