oh, let me know about the D600. I have a C600 that may be dying on me.

Ditto please. Except for the C600. I have an ancient Gateway lappy that needs replacing >.<

My 12" PowerBook is awesome. I've had it in the neighborhood of 2 years and don't regret 1 second of it.

I'm happy with my Dell Inspiron 700m for $757.

I'll probably get an iBook next year if they begin using Intel hardware and better graphics card.

Grats on the iBook :)

OS X is RAM hungry, too! I first had 128 MB in my iBook 12" 800 Mhz and it was like walking on fresh tar (frequent beach ball cursor). I then upgraded to 384 MB and think it's okay. On the other hand my father is content with 256 MB on his iBook 900 Mhz...

Enjoy it!

I suggest staying away from Powerbooks though. At this point the price difference between them and iBooks compared to the hardware upgrade isn't worth it. They'll never have G5s, so the next liekly update is the intel changeover.

i agree!!!

i also agree that the apples are expensive but not "too much"
if only for the fact that apple laptops have a great track record, fanatastic recall and service (motherboard and battery recall as of late) and they work. they dont overheat and they are actually powerful machines.
ive not yet seen a pc laptop brand that works particularly well.

that's only for bloated M$ products, a MAC will do fine with 256MB.

i was against the mac haters in this thread but you fighting for the mac like that is absurd.
please, apple products (especially since the introduction of X and their first versions) are notoriously bloated. and laptops are the machines that suffer when using minimal ram. i would find it odd if the apple representative and trainer that comes to my place of business would constantly suggest that 512 is the "unofficial" minimum ram.
while id love to think he is just trying to make money, the fact that he seems to be correct sort of hampers that theory.

Yeah, OSX is pretty RAM hungry.

I'm patiently waiting for my new iMac to come in so I can play with it and spend all kinds of money upgrading it :p

64MB Video card and slightly better processor. The 12" Powerbook only survives because Apple won't put a DVD burner in the 12" iBook.

Can't the drive be bought on say eBay or though a reseller?

If you want to crack the case of the iBook, sure. The 14" iBook actually comes with the DVD burner, so you could just swap it from one to the other.

I don't think I ever had a piece of hardware I didn't crack open at one point or another. ;)

Just got a Mac Mini at work. Very cute. Funny how the power brick is almost bigger than the actual unit :)

Nice!

I just cleaned the entire thing with Korkay. Then buffed ALL the scratches out of the top and bottom. This thing looks BRAND NEW! :)
