Just got my Samsung SyncMaster 151s and its great and all but the games that i play ( Warcraft3 and Diablo2 ) look to grey. I tried turning down the gamma but then its too dark. My screenrefresh rate is set to 60hertz.

Thanks for any help

Gretzky, I just sent my daughter off to college w/ that same LCD, and if I remember right the default refresh rate was 75Hz. My guess is you'd see quite a bit of difference, image wise, going from 60 to 75Hz.

Are you running the LCD at it's native resolution? Anything other than that will usually suck.

Click on Start....Run .... type in dxdiag.
Click on the More Help tab and Overide Direct Draws default refresh rate of 60hz....type in a value of 75. :)

bah..... CRT monitors rule....

but yeah, i as well have heard to leave the resolution on what is recommended or defaulted by the LCD or for the LCD.. they look the best that way.

ya its on default, still says 72hetz in my graphics card properties. But says 75 in the dxdiag box. Still pictures look choppy and warcraft3 looks very grey, the detail of buildings and the surrounding environment is very bad.

You need to adjust the contrast and brightness settings. From what you say (the image is too grey), you need to increase the contrast and push the brightness up a bit. It helps a lot if you have some kind of monitor calibration software like DisplayMate to guide you.

BTW, I have the 151B (basically a higher end version of the 151S, but with speakers) and after making the necessary adjustments, the picture is incredibly sharp and clear. So much so that I now prefer LCDs to CRTs, even for gaming.

Try any other games?

Actually the colors will look truer at 60 hz.

It takes a long time for a pixel to change from one color to the next on LCD's. If it refreshes too fast (75 hz), then some of the old color is still left while the new one is coming in, and the mixture yields a grey muck color.

but if you use a slower refresh (60 hz), then the pixel has more time to fully change color before the next draw, so it can give you a bright distinct true shade of color each time it is drawn.

That is why you should use 60 hz on an LCD to get the best colors.

definitely stick with 60hz, you should get better color (on the 151S i use, at least). next, be sure you run 1024x768, and you will probably want to enable TrueType if you're running windows XP.
