Got my first inkjet printer...want to scan pictures and enlarge and print..plz help

Hard to believe but i just purchased my first inkjet printer...ive had computers for over 12 years..never really needed a printer except for text printouts (brother had a dot-matrix and inkjet). Well now I got a new epson 880 printer, i have an old canon fb620u scanner 600dpi. Is it feasible to scan images at a very high resolution and then retouch it possibily then print them out on the printer and get good results? Will the image lose much quality if i were to print the image in a larger than its original format?
Are my limitations mainly the older scanner? I believe the 880 should print out some nice photos from the comments ive read on here.

Yes, but ymmv.

It depends on how large you go. As you go larger, the image will get worst.

No, the fb620u isn't that bad. It's 30bit.
