I'm so fsckin' pissed.

The unit was listed to be in perfect working order, having just been gone through by an audio technician, all the pots and switches cleaned, etc. Well, they need to fire their tech. That's the only reason I bought it.

When I brought it in, I got nothing.. no power or anything. Upon internal inspection, a wire had come loose from the power switch. No big deal, right? Yeah, if that was the only problem.

It took me about 30 seconds to figure out there was something wrong. The volume pot is more or less broken. It is sloppy, and I have to press on the volume knob for it to make reliable contact. Unacceptable.

The balance knob is almost equally as bad, and the bass control is a little funky too. Unacceptable.

The remote left channel is.. broken, and it seems to be indepdenant of the manfunctioning controls. It was horribly distorted nomatter what I did. Absolutely unacceptable.

What a crock of sh!t. Needless to say, it's going back. This isn't what I bid on. But.. I want to know what my options are as far as credit card goes, since that's what I used to pay, via PayPal.

I really dislike the idea of having to spend 25$ to send it back to him, only for him to refund me the item's cost minus shipping. That means I'd be out 50$ AND an amp.

This really sucks. I'm still waiting for an email back from them, but if they give me any sh!t, I'll keep the fsckin' amp and do a chargeback on my credit card, or something equally mean. I just don't know how that works, since the item is shown as delivered and stuff.

This is the first time I've had a problem like this with eBay, and I suspect it won't be my last.

Pots are not big deal to take care of.. shot channel can be a pain to track down though.

But thats besides the point, they lied to you. I'm not sure about CC protection..

Yeah, I know.. and don't get me wrong, this is a 30 year old amplifier..

But... they said it had been cleaned, and is in perfect working order, and that is simply not the truth. It was obviously not tested very extensivly, because it is unlistenable.

The pots were indeed cleaned, I can see evidence of that, but either they knocked more dirt loose than they actually cleaned, or I don't know.. because the controls are obviously funky. Like I said, I noticed basically the moment I turned it on and started fiddling.

I was going to just attempt to fix it, but I did not spend 110$ on something that needs to be fixed. That's exactly why I bought the particular unit, so I could avoid these kinds of problems. Gah!

Man, that sucks...can't help you out other than saying good luck, I too, love the sound of a Dynaco. One of my friends used to be a huge tube-head, until he sold everything to work on his cars.

I'm not an ebay expert, but:

The CC company is going to want you to send it back in the event of a chargeback. If you do charge it back and circumvent paypal's procedures for disputes, I would assume you can kiss your paypal account goodbye. I'd be sure to clean that sucker out before you go the chargeback route.

It's bullsh!t for you to pay shipping both ways, given that he lied about the condition. You should push hard for him to refund shipping one way.

It's hard for me to believe that he outright lied. I mean, it obviously has been cleaned.. But it was NOT tested well enough at all. But that's probably a good thing, hopefully he will be sympathetic.

This transaction has been a nightmare. He seems like a nice guy, though. I somehow managed to pay him twice, and he quickly refunded the accidental payment..

So hopefully he will be reasonable. I'd be satisfied if I only had to pay shipping back.

The fact that it didn't power on when I first got it left a sour taste in my mouth, but it turned out to be an easy fix.

I was maybe going to just replace or re-clean the pots.

But then I tried the rear channels and noticed the horrible distortion on the left, that was it... I made the decision to send it back.

heh, I'm way too laid back when it comes to sh!t like this. I'm tired of getting the short end of the stick.
