Class 7 (Novice Permit): Also called the "N" stage minimum age 17, the permit is obtained after completion of the Class 7L driving test. A Class 7 licence is good for five years, and the stage takes a minimum of two years to complete (Unless the person graduates from an accredited driving course, then it's 1.5 years). Drivers must display a large 'N' decal on the back of their vehicle. Restrictions include 0 blood alcohol and a limit of one passenger (the limit being waived for anyone in the immediate family). Furthermore, any infraction of the traffic law by the possessor of a Class 7 Licence can result in a prohibition, after which the possessor must begin the Class 7N program from the start. After two years, the licence-holder may take the 60 minute Class 5 road test. Passage grants a full licence (a Class 5 passenger vehicle licence).

Yeah no one here has picked up on that joke before. Not new.

Plus you see them all over the place. Even if you are a new driver and you are an adult you still fall under this same plan usually. So if you immigrate here from overseas and want a license you have to go through the same system. It's not just for youngins. Here's what the sign's look like:

Aren't those signs usually only placed on teaching cars, that is the cars used by driving teachers? And don't those cars usually have 2 steering wheels?

Edit: Oh and they aren't really that bright. Those pics are florecent red and green. The real signs are duller.

Then you need to peel reubber with a Cop behind you, just to prove your not intimidated by the badge!

I can drive well, just inexperienced.

I'm sure that's how you see it but you only know the fundamentals and should pay attention to everything without taking risks.

I'm sure everyone wants to see you around for a long time so try to drive defensively and have a good time with your new found responsibility!

You were 7 when I registered on these forums (5 or 6 if you include the old old forums). 2 or 3 years old when I built my first gaming PC with the money I worked for while in high school.

Over here it's L at 15 for 6 months then Restricted for 18 months (12 if you take a defensive driving course). 15 is too young IMO.

With the way I drove at that age it's a wonder I'm alive. Just keep in mind you are mortal, and 40,000 Americans die yearly in car accidents. So go slow ^_^

I just got my license last year. My best advice for your first year is to simply play it safe for the first few years. Don't take unnecessary risks. That way you have more experience under your belt for the next year and so on.

I got my full G license probably 2 years ago. I could have gotten it earlier, but I just didn't have the urgent need to get it. I still don't use a car so having a drivers license is more of a luxury than anything.

Really, walking + taking subway/bus >> driving on city streets. Freeways are a different matter of course.
