Lol at NCIX...half video card...half stuffing (got it very fast though...ordered Nov 15 AM...arrived Nov 16 around noon)

Preliminary OCing using CCC yields 855MHz core and 1350MHz (2700MHz) (!!!) memory. I'll post some game results later cause I don't have much time right now. Unfortunately Rivatuner 2.06 nor AMDGPUClock tool work with the card. It isn't even recognized as a 3870...just as RV670.

Oh and I can't control the fan speed in CCC...how do ya'll 2900 owners do it?

The card feels much lighter than my previous 8800GTS 640 I had...probably because the cooler doesn't cover a whole lot of area...and the fan shroud doesn't even cover all the memory heatsinks.

Any requests for testing?

TESTING RESULTS (only in Vista)
------------------------------------

Mandelbrot (775/1200)
SM3 = 23.1 SM2= 11.80 FBO = 13.30 CPU = 2.88

Mandelbrot (855/1350)
SM3 = 25.5 SM2= 13.10 FBO = 14.70 CPU = 2.88

In comparison of the same test on my system with 700/1900/2000 clocks

SM3= 62.4 SM2= 31.4 FBO= 31.2 CPU= 3.78

Using Vista64

Those gpu scores look about right, but the cpu score is way too low. Does it say "using 4 threads" for the software renderer?

awww damnit!~ I reset my overclock while bumping the clear cmos this morning, i forgot! LOL BRB

that's the bad karma getting you for buying up 4 3870's... not that I care since my 3870 has now shipped and even has a tracking # :)

It definitely wasn't friendly to the 7 series - those cards tanked in the SM3 test because of heavy dynamic branching. And I didn't optimize it for any specific architecture.

How the heck does your OC'd quad core score lower than my Opty 165? I tested this on a 3.5ghz C2D on WinXP, and the score was almost 10. What fps do you get when you just run the app and hit F4 to force cpu rendering? I get about 4fps.

CRYSIS
-a question: The benchmark scores when you exit are different from what you get on the fps counter while doing the benchmark? Which one are people reporting?

Would the demo benchmark suffice? I don't have the game installed yet.

Oh by the way I can ONLY do Vista testing..sorry.

I usually let the benchmark run all the way through - it will run a total of four times before it stops on its own. The average fps for the last three runs should be very close to each other, what is the number I usually use. The first run is usually a little lower because the textures are being loaded into memory during the first run. Vista with the demo would be perfect, but let us know if you bench with DX9 or 10 (or both).

seriously, crysis at 1440x900, all details very high, max aa/af.

Dunno why but that res is not available for me in Crysis.

EDIT: After installing the ATI Hotfix driver, a lot of new res possibilities came up in the game but now the 1920 ones are gone.

Also, performance went up by 8fps at 1600x1200 and Very High settings, AND got rid of some texture anomalies after installing the hotfix driver.

Will do some more testing tomorrow.

Damn apparently I was supposed to add the promo to my shopping cart when I checked out...didn't see that. I contacted NCIX to see if they could send it to me...hopefully they say okay.

That's a very nice boost in Crysis! Now, if only these cards would get in stock again!

With the Hotfix exactly how much more competitive now is the 3870 in Crysis now as compared to an 8800gt?

That's more like it. I guess my app doesn't play well with Vista.

Fair enough. But High settings are still the same on Vista vs. XP as far as I read. The only advantage Vista gives is for Very High settings for DX10 hardware. So Vista is almost twice as slow for same image quality....?

The scores actually went up now to 31 fps (with the new ATI driver), and yes as others have pointed out I'm using Vista. Also, you have a Q6600 which is apparently supposed to help isn't it (atleast in the full version of the game??)? Are you using the full version or the demo?

Strange but my cpu score is 4x higher..I dont know why.

SM3= 42.89 SM2= 31.89 FBO= 31.89 CPU= 16.40

I beat you in 3 of the 4 tests with a slower clocked Q6600 @ 3.4ghz and 8800GTS at 618/1458/1800 which is way slower than your card.

Sounds like Vista is the culprit here once more.
