Got my dad's old ADi Microscan 19", color seems "dull", how to correct?

I got my dad's old ADI Microscan monitor, it is 19", and I am not sure of the exact model name. The color seems a bit dull, how can i fix this? My older 17" was a piece of junk (wouldn't go above 1280x1024 @ 60hertz), this monitor is huge, supports great resolutions and refreshrates, but seems to be rather dull in color. I've tried my best messing with Nvidia's display setting to get the "correct" sharpness i'd like, but I can't get it perfect, as in some games (counter-strike), dark areas are incredibly dark to the point it is extremely hard to make out whats in there, if anything, or nothing.

I run a GF3Ti200, and this 19" ADi Microscan. Any ideas?

first run the Nokia Monitor Test


if the picture quality still seems sub-par it might be because of the age of the monitor.

It is about 4 years old, but I think its newer than the 17" I had.

Thanks for the link, I will try that out soon.

The colors I believe seem dull, because the picture seems like it has too much gamma in it.... but if i lower it, it just drops brightness all around. Either way, I cannot get the sharpness I got with my old one.

Does anybody know anything about Color Profiles?

I messed with the Nokia thing, Wasn't sure what it was supposed to do, but I went through all the little test things.

The thing about the monitor is, I cannot seem to find a brightness changer, so I have to change the brightness via software (or a hammer).

Any ideas?

Some monitors don't have the brightness/contrast settings in the menu. But every monitor should have the settings somewhere. have you pressed every button on the monitor?

Heh, I found the contrast/brightness, it was a small dial on the bottom of the monitor.

I still can't get it the way I like it, any other way to fix this?

I'm getting used to it, but I don't like it.
