About 5 months ago I got my first credit card. It's been a rather eventful year compared to usual... got driver's permit, moved to the west island (public transport, stuff everywhere), got a CC, got (paid/pay for) my own cell phone, made new friends talked to new ppl etc etc. Anyway, as of recently I've been thinking about my future more and decided on working full time for a while, moving out, etc. Well, with a $500 CC limit, it'd be difficult to do a lot of things, even if I have a decent pay coming in every two weeks. I went to the bank expecting to either get refused or bumped to 750 only... but to my surprise they added 1200 to my limit, totalling $1,700! 😀 I am just about finished paying off my current balance . I've learned a lot with this card in the past 5 months, and I intend to use my experience to my advantage and stay out of debt (ie, not spend money i don't know I'll have - like I've done in the past).

Just felt like posting this. Was a nice surprise on my way back to work. Not only that, they said it'd take 2 weeks - then verified and it was in fact 2 days. Furthermore, it was already updated when I got home later tonight. 😀 The card is a standard $0/yr 18.5% Visa btw. I could buy a lot of sh1t right now, but I'm going to take things one step at a time, as the pay comes in.

Things to get:

-Car
-Car stereo (head unit, amp, speakers, box+subs, possibly another battery)
-computer stuff : 1GB ram, 80GB/8MB S-ATA drive, DVD drive, LCD monitor, better than tnt2 video card, more blank CDs (with cases this time)
-misc: discman (always wanted one, never had one), CDs, change cell phone plan, new guitar and amp (maybe $1k total for this)
-all things required if I move out (home appliances, furniture, all the 1-time stuff)

I figure doing everything step by step I should have everything I want in about a year. 😛 The good news is, I couldn't go buy all that stuff even if I wanted to, 1700 isn't THAT much money. 😛

What the....? Why? I talked to the bank lady for a little while when I was inquiring about all this stuff. Basically there's no real advantage to having multiple CCs,... and I can definitely understand/appreciate that point of view! One CC is enough credit... I'll have more when I get a car loan anyway, unless I buy my car cash.. lol.

Well, I'm probably a bit older than you, so I've accumulated these cards over time. A couple of them were ones I applied for to get some kind of bonus/gift/incentive. None of them are even close to being maxed out, thankfully. I think 3 cards is about right, used judiciously. There are lots of unexpected expenses in life.

Dude, if I were you... I'd be saving up your money rather than buying all that crap. You'll thank yourself later!

When I first quickly read your thread title, I thought you got your credit RATING up to 1,700. I scratched my head and then realized it was yor credit card limit that had been raised. Enjoy the additional funds - but, don't over-do it. 😉

i thought the same thing heh, because that would have been something to boast about, not "i have the potential to owe 1700, yeehaw"
