I just bought a black Antec case for my new A64 gaming rig.

MSI Neo4 Platinum
Athlon 64 3000+ Venice Core
2x512 Corsair Value Select PC3200
eVGA 6800GT PCI-e
200GB SATA HD
DVD-RW Drive
DVD-ROM

I'm on a tight budget, but I don't want to be so cheap that the PSU I buy ends up screwing my entire system up.

I'm looking at an Aspire & a Thermaltake from the egg, and was wondering if I could get any advice on them:

ASPIRE

Go for a Fortron. Great quality, great price.

NewEgg link coming soon.

This or the Aspire. they both look like decent supplies.

For quality and a real good price, the ENERMAX EG565P-VE FMA 535W is probably one of the best if you're on a budget. If you really need to go lower than that there's the Antec Smart Power 2.0 that's pretty decent as well and cheap. But the price you pay for that you'd be better of paying just a lil more and getting the enermax.

If you don't want to screw things up throw out the TT and the Aspire to start. Like the poster above said, check out the Enermax... Although I prefer the OEM Antec Xclio 450W psu (dual 12v rail with 32A) for only $52 at newegg. Nice, quiet PSU.

The XClio is decent but apparently they don't have PFC any more so they aren't as good a value as before. You might look at the 400 too as it is about the same specs for a few less bucks. The XClio is made by Channel Well the same OEM that makes Antec, most Enermax, etc.

I have that aspire PSU in blue and it has been rock solid. My system is as follows:

Gigabyte GA-K8N Ultra-9
A64 3200+
2x512 Corsair VS
ATI X800XL
36gb Raptor
250gb Seagate
DVD-ROM
DVDRW

I was able to OC up to a little over 2.5GHZ and anything past that was my memory failing not the PSU.

But would the 400w still give me the same results as the 450 with my system specs? As long as it can handle my system with a little bit of extra room then i'm set.

i had a 500w aspire kill most of my system.

never again.

my motherboard managed to survive somehow... asus a7n8x deluxe. but the front channel of the onboard sound no longer works.

don't make the same mistake. spend as much as you can on a psu. don't skimp.

I bet somebody here iether sells fortron or owns the company.....

There are alot of good PSu`s out there......
Yes there are some bad ones and those are what people need to be aware of.

Yet....on every thread that mentions PSu`s somebody always says go with fortron.....

My point being....Antec.....Aspire....AeroCool are all good companies as well as there being many others out there...

So take your time read ..look at reviews and get what fits your needs and actually looks good in your rig!!

man just took a look at the modstream...what a great looking psu...now its going to be a tough choice./...i either look to save $30 with the XCLIO or go for the extra bang with the OCZ...both seem like they'll get the job done.

actually I agree on the Aspire thing..
I was just naming companies that come to mind.....
Some PSU`s are better than others yet there are people who use Aspire with no problems....

Anyways good thread!!
