Got my 7800GS!!

So I got one from the FS/FT forum for $210 and I was able to overclock it to from 375/1200 to 500/1400.

Pretty happy with that considering it's inside a Shuttle SFF.

I would agree with most of you to just upgrade to an Athlon 64..but in my case since I'm using a Shuttle, it would have been more expensive to get a new cpu/proc/case/ps
Plus I got a great price on the vid card

I'm pretty stoked...it runs quieter than the 5900 I had in there too!

That's nice to hear. I was seeing alot of issues with the 7800GS in forums but i was also assumig that the drivers just weren't quite mature for the cards yet. How does it fare in gaming?

Hmmm.... interestingly, I've got a Shuttle SN45G with a Athlon-M overclocked to 3200+ speeds and a 5900Ultra for video... been thinking about upgrading the video, but like you I am stuck with AGP.

Which powersupply do you have? I upgraded to the 250W, but am thinking that I may have to go to the new 300W for some of these newer video cards.

I also have a Shuttle SN45G w/ an Athlon XP 3000+ (the 400 Mhz bus one) and had a 5900NU
I upgraded my PS to the 300W one a while ago..it really helps. With the larger PS I was able to overclock the 5900 higher, and also the computer was quieter.
I'm sure the larger PS is enabling me to o/c the 7800gs to 500mhz stabley

err

acutally I take that back..I upgraded from the 200W to the 250W PS and it's working just fine..I wonder what would happen if I upgraded again to the 300W!!

You're running a 7800GS in a 250W PSU? Better hope it's a quality PSU.

BTW, I don't think your PSU has anything to do with clock speed, just vcore, but I could be wrong.

7800gs and a p4 northwood at 3.2 with a dvd burner floppy and a 120gig hard drive all on the shuttle 300watt... runs like a dream and i get 510/1450 stable

The power supplies in the Shuttle Small Form Factor boxes are VERY high quality as compared to the average out there. How many watts a power supply has actually means very little compared to other measurements. This is a bad analogy, but it's sort of like saying that one has a car that can do 10,000RPM. It really doesn't tell you anything about the actual power created.

Just an aside....I didn't even know Shuttle made a 300W PSU for their SFF PCs. Since you told me, I broke down and ordered one! Let's see how the card can overclock now! Hopefully it will make my system even quieter!

I had a SN45G rev.1 with the 200w ACHME and it ran a T-bred B@2.3ghz, 6800GT OC@Ultra speed, 2x512, PCI wireless nic no troubles. Stock I.C.E. cooling but the fan was kinda loud sometimes. SoundStorm was the deal sealer when I bought it. The SN45G is a true classic 🙂
