It's coming tuesday guys, so I'll have to lower my overclock back to default, install the ram, boot up, then redo my oc?

Just checking guys, thanks for your time.

I'd go with your first choice (Crucial Ballistics) for a few reasons. Owned by Micron so always micron ic's which leaves a lot of headroom for overclocking or very tight timings.

You can look up the rest of the ic's here:

If you buy a quantity of 2 for that you will receive 4x 1GB sticks. (IE: 2 Sets of the 2x 1GB Package)

Excellent memory with Micron D9 IC's. That's what I have in my machine.

Would I notice the difference between the two?

Hmm... probably not! LOL.

Unless you are overclocking, both RAM and the CPU. I do not OC my RAM, and my bandwidth at ~6600MB/s (SANDRA) is more than satisfactory to me.

But it is the highest quality/performance RAM from G.Skill.

So is the Ballistix from Crucial, right...?

But I favour G.Skill over Ballistix, because it is rated to run at only 2.0V versus 2.2V.

Overall, it's a toss-up, IMO.

Both the Gskill HZ's and the Ballistix 5300-8000's use D9GHM IC's on Brainpower PCB's so its exactly the same modules just in different packets, so go with whatever is the cheapest of the two, I'd recommend the Ballistix as they're great in my rig but its up to personal preference.

Mine's coming today. I also order 4x1GB of Crucial PC2-8500 (DDR2-1066). So bump as well, as I am curious.

If you raise your northbridge voltage a notch or two, before you install the second set of RAM, you most likely won't have to change anything at all, since you don't have much of an overclock. If you do have to change anything, besides the northbridge voltage, it will be raising your timings a bit, but you most likely won't have to do that.

To be safe I've got my E6600 running on stock.

I have been running 4 sticks on my P5W DH for a few months. I did have to alter my overclock as I had strange stability issues with a 1:1 FSB:Memory ratio when i got above ~380 MHz or so. I am now running the memory at an asynchronous lower ratio which has been working well. My memory scores are a few percentage higher, but I was able to maintain my CPU overclock and stability has improved. Also, I was able to lower my RAM latencies to CAS3.

I just popped them in and booted. It started them at their JEDEC Specs and I just boosted them to 1066. I left my Q6600 @ 3.0GHz. Everything went fine. I'm now running at 2.2v (stock) DDR2-1066 @ 4-4-4-12. Now I only have to wait for my HDD to come so I can install XP_64 so I can actually use the extra RAM. XP_32 only detects 2.2GB. 1.8GB seems alot for the PCI addressing space, but oh well. I'll be installing XP_64 tomorrow. With 4 sticks, however, my board can only push them to DDR2-1084. It will not boot @ 1111 with all 4 sticks... I only pushed my NB/SPP voltage to 1.45v b/c I didn't want to push it to 1.55v since nVIDIA chipsets are notoriously hot already. Right now my NB/SPP is at 1.35v.
