Looks like it was a refurbished though (8/2006 manuf. date). Still, the fans and DVD drive are considerably quieter than the old machine which was manufactured in 1/2006.

I'm a happy camper now that I'm back to playing some quality video games. Loving the quieter console.

2 weeks and 3 days. As I said...they didn't actually fix it...they just sent me a replacement.

Well it seems the 65nm is out now...you just have to find a Premium that states it has an HDMI port...so you don't need to wait anymore. With the drop in price and the release of this new smaller CPU...I imagine a lot more people will be biting in the next couple of months. Especially with Madden and Halo coming out.

I've got Forza 2 on the way from the $39.99 special at Amazon and my wife already played several hours in her Viva Pinata gardens last night. Good to have the machine back in the house.

I have to say that although it really sucked having the system break and having to wait 2 weeks for a new one...MS really did a nice job with the warranty service with me. I spent less than 30 minutes on the phone with them registering my old system and requesting warranty service. A few days later I got the packaging in the mail with everything needed (including tape) to box the system up. Dropped it off at a UPS store and a bit over a week later I get the system back from UPS working better than my original. I'm a happy customer once again.

Not to get two threads started on this same topic, but it's not been confirmed that premium units with the HDMI contain the new 65nm die shrink. I'm guessing they simply started using the motherboard and internal design from the Elite, and the 65nm parts will come along in a month or two.

I'm not sure if this is directed at me, but no...the replacement Box they sent me does not have the HDMI slot in the back.

I would imagine for the time being that most if not all of the consoles being send back from RMA will still be the original 360s without HDMI. I would want to bet that a good number of them will have the updated heatsink though.

So they shipped my replacement back today, it has a different serial # according to the email, and a lower one at that. Weak sauce.

One interesting thing I noticed is that I turned my XBOX off around 6:30-ish last night. I went out to watch a movie from my PC and noticed a loud fan noise. Both of my PCs use 120MM fans and Zalman coolers, so I knew it wasn't making the noise. I noticed that it was coming from the xbox and my Intercooler was turned on for some reason. The crazy thing was, after 3 hours, the Intercooler was still blowing hot air out from the XBOX.... I can turn my PC off and the only heatsink that would probably still blow hot air if a fan was on it would be my video card.

Thought it was a bit crazy!

Interesting...well hopefully you won't have any issues with it. I guess it ends up being the luck of the draw since they obviously can't always send back refurbs with manufacturing dates newer than the one sent in. Maybe you've got mine...treat her well...I had a lot of great moments with her... :D

The 360 is definitely a hot machine..something the 65nm and later 45nm processes should certainly alleviate considerably.
