got me a virus

It's called dropper.generic.agx. I think I got it while installing aim adhack. I can't freaking get rid of it, AVG doesn't do anything.

Right now I can't even uninstall aim or install new versions of adhack.

Droppers are usually trojans which are more related to spyware than viruses. Most anti-virus programs will detect them but can't remove them because of the way they're imbedded into the registry. Most of them embed themselves into Explorer and IE via a BHO object.

I would recommend you follow my detailed spyware cleaning instructions here: http://theflyingpenguin.com/spyware-removal.shtml

Afterwards run a FULL virus scan in SAFE MODE.

Hope this helps...

Also, if you're using AVG, then while you're scanning in Safe Mode, also use the McAfee scanning utility described in this text file (right-click, Save Target). McAfee > AVG.

Learn anything from that experience...? Just checking.
