Got Lollipop on my Note 4 -- when for Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4

So I finally got the update for my Verizon Note 4 and I checked to see if the update was available for my Tab 8.4. It showed an update of something over 100MB and when it finished I was 4.4.2. I then rechecked for an update and sure enough there was another one and this time it was over 60MB. Downloaded and installed that but still showing 4.4.2.

OK, I hadn't checked for an update for the tab in quite a while so I probably had an older update that I only just discovered.

Any word on when the tab is due for Lollipop? My particular tab doesn't have cell service and is only wifi.

Dunno. My Tab pro 8.4 got some update earlier this week and its still 4.4.2. My Note 4 got it a couple of days ago and its stinks. Battery life is horrid. This morning it was at 100% and 60 mins later its at 65% and i was only listening to music for 45 mins. I dont plant to let lollipop on the tab pro as the battery life on 4.4.2 is bad enough.

I'm not seeing any abnormal drain with 5 on my Note 4 so it's probably some app or something keeping your awake.

Lollipop was supposed to improve battery life by something like 20% so having higher drain says you have a flakey app.

My only complaint about lollipop (note 4) is that location doesn't seem to work the way it used to; my weather app can never get location in my condo. Basically under 4.2.2 it didn't require a gps lock to get approx location but with lollipop it is requiring a gps lock which isn't going to happen in this building. Unhappy with this new behavior.

Did you set the location mode to high accuracy?

Did you clear the cache after the update? That fix put battery life back to normal for me.

To wipe the cache partition, follow these steps:
1. Turn the device off.
2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time:
• Volume Up key
• Home key
• Power key.
3. When the phone vibrates, release the Power and Home key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key.
4. Continue holding the Volume Up key until the Android System Recovery menu displays and then release. This step may take several seconds.
5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight 'wipe cache partition.'
6. Press the Power key to select.
7. When the wipe cache partition is complete, 'Reboot system now' is highlighted.
8. Press the Power key to restart the device.

Yes of course; I'm pretty sure the pre lollipop method was using towers to estimate location prior to gps lock. Anyways this new behavior is a PIA. My moto - newer is worse.

I'm not sure this is exactly how it works. When I am at home, my phone likes to report my location as a city in Michigan that is about 200 miles away from me. My weather and Google Now information also update to show the information for that city. If I go into the Maps application and get a GPS lock then everything will update to the correct location, but only until the next normal refresh comes along and then I am back in Michigan again. So, it appears the information is more than happy to update without GPS lock to me.

It still works the pre lollipop way for me, but I had to change the setting after I did the upgrade. I would double check it.

Thanks, trying this now. Will report back if successful.

From the silence, I guess it didn't work for you. I would do a factory reset next.

You are correct in your assumption. Did not work. Will copy all my data to my laptop and to a factory reset. Damn.

Well, a factory reset worked. Note 4 is much better. I noticed a few apps were not available when I did the inplace lollipop update. I assume those apps were A. not optimized for lollipop and B. causing my battery drains and sluggishness. All is well again.

My main complaint is that they removed the api that allowed apps toggle mobile wifi without digging around in the settings.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=81891

seems like they don't consider it much of an issue but I along with others disagree. Otherwise it's been fine using Apex Launcher a dark background and monochromatic icons and only becomes a minor issue when I have to check notifications or play with settings.

The app toggle for mobile data would help that out a lot imo. I've heard that 5.1 makes that toggle more accessible.

^I noticed that the data toggle didn't work properly with an app I was using on my HTC M7 once I upgraded to Lollipop 5.0.1.

However, HTC did fine because their own toggles work properly now, so maybe it will just take a bit of time for the app makers to implement it properly.

Must be some other setting because I am also set to high accuracy. The other 2 optiosn are pretty useless (for myself). Do you have any other setting enabled ?

I'm set to high accuracy. If you go to the notification bar and turn location off, and then back on, you should get the pop-up to set it.

Not that I'm aware of. It was the only thing I changed.
