Make sure all your computers are in the same workgroup (found in network settings for 9x, computer properties for XP)

Once they are, just go to Network Neighborhood for 9x, My Network Places for XP, and you should see all of them.

Make sure that you have File & Print Sharing enabled on each system.
Enable NETBIOS over TCP/IP in TCP/IP advanced properties on all systems.
Share at least one resource on the systems, right click on a drive in My Computer, Sharing, New Share.
Make sure that you have an account on any 2K/XP system for each login ID/PW for all the machines.

If it still doesn't work, install NETBEUI protocol on all systems, here' s a direct link to the files for XP: http://www.onecomputerguy.com/software/xp_netbeui.zip

If you are using XP, you need to go into Network Neighborhood and use the wizard to add the pc's to the workgroup. Make sure you run the wizard on ALL computers on your home network.

Actually, I recommend against the Network Wizard, it frequently leaves you with a non-working environment.

I respectfully disagree, as the XP network wizard has always worked for me in a small, home networking evironment. Why try to confuse the novice people? OMGZ USE LINUX YOU N00B!1!!!

Well, you're free to disagree. :) Since I've had to sort out a number of systems where the so-called network wizard made things worse than when they started, I advise against using it. It's much easier to tell someone how to manually configure networking, but after the wizard has scrambled it, it's hard to know what they actually have.

The wise-ass Linux comment doesn't need a rebuttal.

This is like saying make sure that your system will be "Quirky" and "Buggy".

Wizards are like a Yugo.

Yeah it will take there for a while, but you are guranteed that sooner (rather than later) it will brake and you will not get there.

There are only 3 types of Wizards & ICS users.

1. Those that have had problems with it.
2. Those that are having problems with it.
3. Those that are going to have problems with it.
