Got kicked out of a pub ...

I was gearing up for a pretty low-key Saturday night. The university pub here has trivia Saturday nights and I showed up just before it started. Now the pub is also running this "beer crawl" thing where every week for about 10 weeks you drink the beer-of-the-week, cross your name off a list, and then at the end you get a t-shirt.

So I show up and ask for the beer-of-the-week. The bartender says that they are out, and some woman behind me reading a newspaper says something along the lines of "yeah, we ran out of it during happy hour." So I say OK, I'll just have a Sam Adams, but can you cross my name off the list. The bartender says he doesn't know if he can do that, and then the woman laughs and tells me no - I'll have to come back and actually buy the beer-of-the-week to get my name crossed off.

I told her I thought that was BS. Note - I used the word bulls**** but I was totally calm and not aggressive at all. She says "what did you say to me?" So I repeated that I thought it was BS. Then she tells me she thinks I need to leave, and how in 10 years no one has ever spoken to her that way. It turns out she was the owner, although she never actually said so.

I thought about arguing but I figured it wouldn't go anywhere so I left. Now I am wishing there was some way I could get some revenge. :p

So did I cross the line or is this just some hypersensitive b**** on a power trip? And what am I to do about it? Thoughts?

She has every right to kick you out and you have every right not to patronize the pub (again).

EDIT: You could open a pub next door. :D

If you were actually calm like you said, then she is on a power trip. I remember at the original Bulldog in Amsterdam, I walked up to the guy dealing the pot because I needed some papers. He sat behind a counter like a bartender. There was a cup of papers next to him, but the packets were empty. "Hey you got any papers?" I ask him. Some bald Swiss dude in his fifties, smoking a cigarette next to him, said to me "Hey, lay off him he's a busy man." Keep in mind he was only dealing with like one other person, no big line or anything. He also said this in a rude manner and blew smoke in my face. "I'm just looking for some papers, you had some right here and they're out." I said. "Go upstairs." he said, there was a bar upstairs that was busy as hell and took forever to get what I needed.

I realize with my quotes that I don't portray the situation properly, but the guy was a condescending dick. The moral of the story is just because the people working there are jackasses doesn't make you one as well.

edit: and I guarantee there were some papers behind that counter.

You cant be disrespectful to strangers, she didnt say she was the owner but by her saying "yeah, we ran out of it during happy hour." she indicated she worked there and unless you knew her well enough to pal around and say that it was bullsh!t you should have kept your opinion to yourself.

i guess in the future you will be a little nicer to people. shrug.

edit: this reminds me of when i got kicked out of abar.

about 5 years ago me and the wife went to a local bar for dinner. i had surgery on my neck. but a side effect is my speech was effected. I normally have a slight speech problem anyway so it was really bad.

the waitress thoguht i was already drunk and called over the bouncer who had us leave. I was pissed off.

luckely i had been going ot the bar since i was like 17 (you could get in and eat. just no drinking) and knew the owner really well. i told him what happened and he baught me and the wife dinner and drinks and chewed out the waitress.

She's just a b*tch on a power trip. If she knew how to run a bar she wouldn't be running out of beer when she has a special going.

odds are they have so many customers it does not matter. Anyway having one curse out the owner (wich is what he did) is reason enough to throw him out.

Wow, where does she live? It must be the friendliest place in the country.

When I feel like I am being treated unfairly I will let you know. Even if its just a t-shirt, and especially when you are getting your kicks out of doing it. Like I said, she was amused at the situation. And word choice notwithstanding, I was completely calm the entire time.

He didn't curse out the owner. He didn't say something like "What the fvck b!tch why are you running some deal you can't even supply the beer for, what are you fvcking stupid?!!?"

According to the OP he simply used a curseword casually. I can imagine "That's bullsh!t" coming off calmly, so if it did indeed come off calmly then she overreacted.

yeah he did.

while it was over reaction i wouldnt want someone in my place of bnusiness cursing. though in a bar you have to expect it.

Have to disagree with you there.. if you are opening up a public shop, especially one that only allows 21+ year olds to enter, you are overreacting if you throw someone out for cursing.

He didn't curse her out.. or do we have different definitions of "cursing out"? Simply using a curse word in a response is not how I define being cursed out.

You both handled the situation poorly, but there's no reason to use profanity with someone you don't know.

No I get the point, its to bring people in on a regular basis. The problem is that the owner is making me jump through hoops to participate. They ran out of beer, so I have to come back some other time in order to get credit for the week. It would be great for them if I did - I'd be there twice a week instead of once - but I don't think that will happen now.

It's a bar, I bet 90% of people who come in there use a curse word at some point or another. Those people don't get kicked out. I didn't call her anything, I simply said that her rule regarding the beer-list when the beer has run out was BS. And it is.

Unfortunately, it looked like you insulted the owner unintentionally.
Some people don't look at profanity lightly.
