little bit of o/cing but more than importantly a stable,reliable and as little bugs as possible. I realize these being newer chipset mobos they will have bugs. But I don't want one thats more likely to crap out leaving me without a system.

Would anyone say one NF4 would be more reliable than the other? Say Chaintech/Asus(been out a couple months) vs MSI/DFI(been out around a month).

DFI has had issues with memory, but the beta bioses seem to fix those.

Asus has had many issues. And their boards have gone downhill imo.

MSI not sure. Got real good reviews.

If you're gonna OC I'd go for an MSI or a DFI. If you want a solid no frills board get an ECS K1N Extreme, it seems to be a steal at ~90-110.00. Great reviews on it as well.


I think like any other piece of hardware, YRMV...some have issues some don't. I'd look more to support/quality/features over what certain people might be saying. then pick what fits your needs more.

Well I've never owned a MSI,DFI,Chaintech,ect board. I've only owned Asus/Epox mostly and Abit. I've worked with ECS boards but never owned one. I would go Asus but I don't want a Sli board and I don't wanna wait for them to release a Ultra. On other forums I hear about DFI Ultra boards just dieing for no reason and it happening to several ppl. If not for this I would jump on the DFI but after seeing that I am leaning toward something else but still not sure. Would wait a few months for things to mature more but I am afraid I might not have the extra funds and I already have a 6600GT PCI-E sitting in the closet .

From what I heard newer shipped boards don't have those pads for bridging. Also Sli costs to much.

Yes, it seems all of these new NF4 boards have issues. I don't plan to go SLI either but I'm between the ASUS A8N-SLI D and DFI Ultra. Looks like the latest bios update for the ASUS has fixed a lot of problems and sounds like it's the most stable of the NF4 boards. I want to get the DFI Ultra but like you said, it sounds like more and more problems are popping-up with them. Part of me thinks about waiting for the Venices and hoping by then there will be better boards out by then. Ugh!! Why can't things be easier...

of course, wanting more stables boards is okay.. but hey, i've had little problems with my DFI. With the new beta bios all my issues are gone. (they were few)

Hmmm Asus Sli is only $20-$25 higher than the DFI Ultra. But I don't plan on going Sli because I think its a waste and I can't really afford 2 mid to high end 3D cards and probably never will.

Would the Asus be more stable and bug/problem free since its been out 2+ months? Or is it not worth the extra?

I would think if you're going to get an SLI capable board, it would be worth the extra $20 to get a true SLI board and not an Ultra with 2 graphic slots. Would be a shame to have Nvidia nuke the 2 slot Ultra with driver or firmware updates down the road.

Nobody has mentioned the Gigabyte NF4 SLI board, it's supposed to be a nice board and very reasonably priced. I've always liked MSI solutions as well.

As for Asus? If there is a reason why their products carry such a premium over other vendors' products, I don't know what it is...

Main reason I am getting the DFI is because I like the looks of it over the other boards. Kind of a dumb reason to buy a board I know. That and I always wanted to try DFI since their NF2 was so popular. I wish they wouldn't have bothered with the dual 3D card setup with their Ultra.

I've only ever owned Asus,Abit and Epox so deciding it hard. Never had any serious issues with Asus before but all of their boards seemed to be missing something that I could never quit figure out. Same goes for Epox. I currently have a Abit NF7-S 2.0 and like it alot.

if you are trying to save money i would go with the chaintech nf4 ultra board. its ~$110 at zipzoomfly. from looking at what you already own it should compliment your parts nicely.
