I have a DELL Dimension 8400 and I put a different hard drive in. I really need to install XP Home OEM on it because I'm selling it to my friend. There's a sticker right on the side of the case with the serial and everything, but it's useless to me without a disc. Could someone please send me the ISO?

I'm willing to give verification that I actually do have a serial for it. (digicam picture)

Dell should have sent the disk along with it but if it is a recent purchase (re: within the last year), Dell started putting the restore stuff directly on the harddrive that came with the system.

Regardless, you should be able to call Dell and ask them to send you whatever disks you may need.

Yeah, I'm sure if I called Dell they would send me a restore disc, but the problem is I leave for san diego tomorrow with that computer and it needs to be on there by then :(

Also, I dont have the original drive anymore...it was formatted and sold long ago.

You should have planned ahead. Borrow one from one of your friends. Everyone has windows these days.

Also, it is more than likely that your original cd-key will not work with a non dell oem disk. I believe major oems like dell have a check in place to see their PCs only work with their disks/keys.

Actually that's incorrect...at my former workplace I repaired computers and every OEM (dell, hp, compaq, sony) I ever had to reinstall windows OEM on, the microsoft windows OEM version installed on with the serial number that was on each respective computer.

Does your workplace have an MSDN subscription? If so, either get the disk you need, or download it.
