Got into Grad School

Hi everyone.

I got into Johns Hopkins to do my MS in finance. No big whoooppeee or anything though. I need to find a place to live, near the MD/DC area. Why is it so dang expensive? I live in Florida now, and I almost fell over and DIED after I found out how much places cost up there. Can anyone help and suggest a pretty okay place to live?

Thanks,

Cathy 🙂

congrats...

there are pretty decent places there i think. but perhaps its b/c i live in southern cali and went to ucla... used to westwood/bev hills prices.

Wow, you just got some of the best news, and for once, someone isn't asking for a cookie from everyone on OT. 🙂 Congrats man, that is no easy school to get into! If you're really having difficulty, I'm sure there are some Hopkins students here, otherwise you can PM me, as my cousin and family friend go there (undergrad) and might have some suggestions.

Johns Hopkins isn't in DC. It's in Baltimore.

Depends on the campus. Some departments are located in D.C., and the main hub (Homewood--undergrad place) is in Baltimore. IIRC, a lot of the graduate programs are in D.C. (I think the entire graduate department of Arts & Sciences is there).

Give us some more specifics.

EDIT: Congratulations, by the way.

My friend is going to John Hopkins this fall as well for International Relations. He just found a place near the campus 2 weeks ago. Um, I dunno where, but I'll be checking out the place next month. Not much else I can add at this point. 🙂

Hello everyone!

Thanks for all the congrats. I'm freaking out, these places are at least $800 a month. How am I going to eat? Maybe I'll ask for food stamps... hmm...

Yes, Johns Hopkins undergraduate main campus is in Baltimore, but the graduate program I am in holds classes in DC, Baltimore, and Columbia. These places are pretty far away from each other, so I decided to just take classes in DC.

If anyone lives anywhere near this area, please help out. I'm not sure how far these places are from each other, and I think that's pretty important.

Are you planning on getting roommates? Maybe find out if JH has a roommate-finding program? Or wait until you get an e-mail with a bunch of other incoming grad students foolishly left in the CC line, and spam them all asking for roomates? 😉 😀

yah, the only way things are going to get cheaper is if you find roommates.

I'm in No Va literally 2 minutes outside of DC. My one bedroom is $960/month but in a few weeks I'm moving into a 2 bedroom with a friend and it'll be $645/person. Big savings 🙂

Good Luck!

Does anyone want to be my roomate?

I'll make you cookies. I'm neat and I don't whine.

Plus I like to watch football. Anybody?

Does anyone know if there's a good website that I could use to find some good apartments? Everywhere i've looked won't display the price or anything.

🙁
