Got in a wreck, advice needed

This dumbass who just got his license turned infront of us because he didn't know that green doesn't mean turn infront of someone and I piled into him. Both of my airbags deployed and the insurance people say it is totalled. I think the value for my car is around $4800 (1997 Chevy Lumina - 86,000 miles).

They said I could choose not to get the airbags fixed and buy it back from them or something, since the airbags are $2000 by themselves, but I kinda want airbags, so I'm thinking if i can get $5,000 from them I may just go look for a 2002ish Honda Accord or something like that...

Don't buy a car without airbags, that is for sure. If they deployed in this wreck, do you feel they helped you live or escape serious injury?

.... why not just let them take your car and you buy another?

Why do you want to fix the airbags on a totaled car?

CPO - a waste of money. Any competent mechanic can do exactly what a dealership does to "certify" it without having the insane markup. Not only that, CPO does not guarantee a thing, in terms of reliability.

So this person was making a left turn on one of those "YIELD ON GREEN" lights? But he thought that just b/c he has a green light (read, NOT green arrow) he can make the left turn...and you were coming from the opposite direction and hit him...right?

Anyways, shouldn't his insurance pay for everything, like getting the entire car fixed up, air bags replaced, etc.? As long as it's his fault entirely, his insurance should pay for all.

I'm a college student and money is tight and the airbags are what is causing it to be totalled, the car itself isn't in that bad of shape. Just needs a hood, right headlight, and front bumper and paint I guess.

Honda CPO comes with a warranty.
"Our certification process includes an exhaustive 150-point mechanical and appearance inspection to ensure that each vehicle meets the highest possible standards. Plus, all of our Certified Used Cars come with a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty and a 12-month/12,000-mile non-powertrain warranty."

Yes, that's correct about the yield on green. I think the insurance will only pay me the value of the car if they think it's totalled...

Most 2002's will still have their factory warranty. Either way, the $4,000 markup is not worth it.

I would take the EXTRA money and put it in the bank and do the basic stuff to fix the car and drive the wheels off it. Juts wear your seatbelt at all times, like you should be doing, and you will be fine.

Just don't rush out to get a new car with new problems or even car payments.
