I'm really not sure either.

Only thing I have disabled is firewire and I'm set to AHCI mode.

IIRC my BIOS is version A15 though.

Again... I'm starting up with -v cpus=2. A lot of people say the distros are picking about being burned over 4x... could you retry that?

I will retry the burn at a slower speed--crazy how that makes a difference. But I'll try anything at this point.

So, with the drive wiped, any suggestions on getting the BIOS updated? A DOS bootable disc with the new BIOS image?

So in your BIOS, you don't disable dynamic acceleration, or speedstep? What about video? Do you have it set at dock video card or onboard video?

Thanks again.

Primary Video is Dock Video Card (I don't use a dock)

Dynamic Acceleration is Enabled
HDD Acoustic Mode is Performance

I'm not sure how you could flash the BIOS with no OS... I imagine they may a boot utility.

What video card are running? Intel or Nvidia?

So, I was able to flash the BIOS (using a bootable CD from bootdisk.com along with the new BIOS). My settings were almost identical to yours.

Last night I reburned the iso file at 2.4X onto DVD+R media (Memorex) but it is still stopping at the same place.

I have nvidia graphics, and I saw on the Dell support site that a driver is available, so I may try and install that to see if that helps.

THe only other thing I can think of at this point is to try different DVD media. Maybe DVD-R or DVD+/-R?

The other scenario would be to reinstall XP and try the install of OS X on the second partition.

Very strange. Thanks again for all your help and suggestions.

Ok... that explains the problem with the video... I have the integrated intel graphics.

I don't have the iDeneb install where I can look at the customize options, but did you install the nvidia graphics driver during the install?

I didn't even get to that point--it stops/hangs during boot/load. the machine stops and the DVD stops spinning. The point (using the -v option) where it stops has a line that says "Darwin Kernel Version 9.2.0: Sun Mar ......."

I got past that point once, but every time since then it keeps stopping at that same point.

Are there any boot options that would load the nVidia video? So do it at boot, rather than waiting until the install?

ive been messing with my d630 and could replicate the errors you were getting. I could successfully boot and install using ideneb with this process:

restore bios defaults, then change sata mode to ahci, (I also changed boot order to boot from optical first)
insert ideneb, reboot, hit f8 when prompted and type in the following:

: -v -f cpus=2

on a side note, I gave up on my d630 hacktinosh. I tried all different distros, and they were all a problem for whatever reason. Had no problems whatsoever getting my main desktop hackintosh to work though. good luck with yours though.
