Got GERD?

Modeps

Lifer
Now, before you all ask, yeah I'm going to the doctor to get his professional opinion. But anyways...

It seems that about 3 nights a week, I wake up coughing, with a taste of acid in my mouth... I usually have to take maalox and sit up for about 20 minute before I can fall back asleep. Typically it happens within 2-3 hours of me falling asleep. I've noticed it's worse the closer I eat to bed time, however it even happens if I eat 2-3 hours prior to bed...

Ugh. It sucks.

Yeah, sounds like it. My wife has acid reflux as well and she has to take Prilosec to keep it under control. Your doctor will probably recommend that or they might give you a prescription for something like Protonix.

Dammit, honestly I've tried pretty much everything I can think of to try and stop it... Eating different things, drinking different things, but no matter what I try, it still happens. Does she still have any problems even with the meds?

I`ve been taking Prilosec for years now and I said goodby to heartburn.
You probibly should have that checked before self-medicating yourself as it might not just be reflux, it could be the start of something else that my be more serious...

I have been using ranitidine (zantac) for a while. Prilosec made me extremely nauseated and on the verge of vomitting for almost 12 hours just from one dose. After doing research, it appears that this happens in about 5% of people, but is not reported anywhere on the box.

Not drinking or eating for 2 hours before bedtime helps. Also, eating less can help too.

Eat vinegar boardwalk fries before bed.

No really don't you will probably throw up blood.

I have the same thing, i just take a pepto bismol when i feel my stomach bothering me. I have a whole host of problems. I used to take nexuim, but all the stomach meds give me headaches. So i just a pepto or so before bed. You have to remember that taking those anti-acid meds can have a negative effect on your stomachs ability to fight off bacteria n stuff.

try Prilosec OTC see if it helps, if not go to the Doc he will most likely give you something even stronger

She does pretty good with Prilosec although sometimes she gets the absolute worst fscking gas I've ever had the displeasure of smelling. Apparently, Prilosec/Protonix/etc. causes your body to neutralize the acids in what you eat by turning it into gas instead. This seems to happen especially if she eats a lot of salsa or drinks a lot of orange juice (e.g. anything with a high acid content).

I can only describe the smell as burning rubber mixed with something that's been rotting for a few weeks in the sun. Fortunately, it doesn't happen very often because my wife takes a sadistic pleasure in grossing me out with the smell.

Strange - I used to have it bad, but it went away on its own without any real diet or lifestyle change.

How do you spell relief? 😛

Now that's love!

My Dr had me change my diet. No soda hours beforge bedtime. Less fried food. Less spicy food. Less tomato based products.

Unfortunatley, I've already pretty much quit out all soda and rarely eat fried food... I do dig spicy food but rarely eat that too... Tomato based products... hmmm.... I do eat lots of pasta and stuff with sauce... that could be it.

I finally got a chance to go to the doctor and he told me I got GERD. Woopie. I gotta get some bloodwork done to make sure other things are ok, and I get some fun pills that are like prilosec.

Wanescotting, it literally tastes like burning. Maybe Ralph Wiggum has GERD too?

i took prilosec for a little, but that made my stomach hurt. so my doc switch me to prevacid, which seems to be much better.

it just sucks that it costs $300 per month (glad i have insurance!).
