Got Gas? U.S. Economy to Worsen as Gas Prices Skyrocket

I'm sure it won't last but station near my work (just outside city of Chicago limits) dropped 11 cents last night to $3.89 for regular, it was $3.99 for quite a while.

With oil going up fast and Labor Day coming up I'm sure they will jack it back up by 20 cents or more within a few days.

One station dropped from $3.47 to $3.41 overnight. Another from $3.46 to $3.43. All others stayed the same.

I can understand what you're saying but that still doesn't justify why it goes up so damn quickly and sharply and then trickles down. Still at $3.47 at every station other than the $3.46 and $3.53 ones (2 total). I can guarantee that if oil had went up 20%, the gas would have followed days ago (at least here).

Still well over $4 in city of Chicago, both stations on corner closest to me at Addison and Elston are both still at $4.14

I have seen some stations outside of the city limits just below $4 at $3.99 and one at $3.93

That 3.77 station is down to 3.61 over the course of a couple days (3.77 -> 3.65 -> 3.61). I paid $2.85/gal yesterday thanks to Stop & Shop rewards points and a bit of smart couponing. That was nice.

Oh, and the reason it's dropping is basically a realization that the thread title is coming true....the world economy is being driven into recession and high gas/oil prices are a huge factor.

Gas really does seem to be stubbornly sticking up, I've not looked at any charts but it seems more detached than normal from oil, I think it ought to have dropped more. It's down nationally $.11 from its peak.
