Funny... Ever since Obama rejected the pipeline construction, gas has went up weekly. Ya think someone besides Obama is actually running the good ole US of A?
Rather than calling this America, how about something more appropriate like the united states of Exxon...?

Do you really think that the rejection of the pipeline is the primary or even a significant cause of the price increases and not strife in the Middle East?

That would be appropriate since Exxon is the biggest Corporation.

Apple briefly took over the top spot but it was for one day.

and the Bullshit begins in earnest

The great NostraDaveous predicts ~$6 gas for downtown Chicago this year that CPD has already conducted riot drills in preparation for.

Many parts of the country will flounder with ~$5 while of course the great almighty Utopia state of Texas will continue to be the benefit of being the core of greed and rape of the country and only charge its Rich Righty citizens around ~$4

Oil at 5-week high above $102 a barrel

Tensions between Iran and the West continued to weigh on energy markets as oil rose to the highest level in five weeks on Thursday.

Benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude rose 45 cents to $102.24 in New York, while Brent crude, which is used to price foreign oil imported by U.S. refineries, rose $1.08 to $120.01 in London.

Also Thursday there were more signs that the U.S. economy is recovering. The Labor Department said weekly applications for jobless benefits fell for the fourth time in five weeks to the lowest point since March 2008. While lower unemployment may be good news, it's also likely to increase demand for oil and push up prices.

What are they predicting the gas prices in Elgin (as in not Chicago) to be at this summer?

A refinery at St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands is closing down and more than doubling an already insanely high unemployment rate for the island (they employ over 20% of the residents). My sister just left the island a month ago and they just caught a murderer from there in the Atlanta area, so the influx is already happening. I have to wonder how their government will survive it considering that it was really the only major source of taxes and spending on the island.

Leaving the Island sounds like the best thing then.

Sounds like it was way overpopulated to begin with.

The gas prices in Chicago are pretty meaningless. Pretty much anyone that lives in the city and actually has a car fills up either outside of the city, or, can afford filling up inside the city. Either that, or, they shouldn't be chosing to use a vehicle in the first place, they should be taking public trans which is pretty good in the city itself.

Those in Crook Co. and not by the Crook/whatever county borders, those are the people that really have it suck. The public trans isn't as good, the gas is still almost as much as it is in the city itself because of the super low tax rate for the 99%'s the Dem's have.

Gas outside of Crook Co., which would include Elgin, is not really any worse than it is in the surrounding region - maybe 10 or at most 20c higher.

St. Croix? Not at all, unless you mean "too many people for the jobs available." It wasn't a tourist island like St. Thomas, USVI. Anyway, seeing how hurricane-prompted refinery shut-downs in TX affected the national price tells me that this will have an impact.

Gas will go up. Brent has been on a terror over Iran. WTI hasn't really priced it in yet.

Brent is the only metric that matters anymore as all the east coast refineries price off Brent.

Gas will average over $3.75 in Chicago within the next 2 weeks, with high water marks of $4.25 or so.

I would expect the national average to be up $.25 this month over last month based on the movement of Brent.

If we see our normal spot RBOB + $.75, gas prices should average $3.75 nationwide within the next week and bring the monthly average into the $3.58 area.

Water, gas continue flowing from Alaska blowout

A blowout at an exploratory well near the coast of the Beaufort Sea underscores the threat to the pristine Arctic Ocean environment if offshore drilling is allowed by the Obama administration, environmental groups said Thursday.

"What it shows is that there can be blowouts with exploratory wells hitting pockets of gas," said Pamela Miller of the Northern Alaska Environmental Center in Fairbanks.

Airlines getting jump on cranking up prices ahead of oil skyrocketing.

2-17-2012

Airlines cite high fuel costs as they raise fares

Jet fuel accounts for about one-third of an airline's costs — about the same as labor — and the bill has been rising along with crude oil prices. This week, the spot price for Gulf Coast jet fuel was 12.1 percent higher than a year ago and up 8.5 percent so far in 2012, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. That could mean more fare hikes ahead.

Thanks to fare increases, all the major airlines that reported figures said they earned more revenue for every seat flown one mile.

There is no doubt Obama will have to tap into the Oil Reserve again but will it be enough to save his re-election?

Gas prices are highest ever for this time of year

At $3.53 a gallon, prices are already up 25 cents since Jan. 1. And experts say they could reach a record $4.25 a gallon by late April.

"You're going to see a lot more staycations this year," says Michael Lynch, president of Strategic Energy & Economic Research

Higher gas prices could hurt consumer spending and curtail the recent improvement in the U.S. economy.

High oil and gas prices now set the stage for even sharper increases at the pump because gas typically rises in March and April.

Gas prices are already an issue in the presidential campaign. Republican candidate Newt Gingrich spoke several times this week about opening up more federal land to oil and gas drilling as a path toward U.S. energy independence — and lower pump prices.

"Our goals should be to get gasoline to $2.50 or less so that working families can actually get to work and retired families can travel," Gingrich said at a campaign event in Los Angeles Thursday.

Back in 2007, before the recession hit, the average for February was $2.25 a gallon.

One tool Obama has is to give an Executive Order so that refiners don't have to make that "Summer Blend".

It shouldn't be needed so much anymore with all the newer fuel efficient and cleaner burning cars.

There, I just gave him the words justifying the order.

You're welcome

Expected $4 gas by spring could hamper SC tourism

While an improving economy would seem to be good news for South Carolina's $14 billion tourism industry encouraging more people to travel, it's shadowed by rapidly rising gas prices that could hit $4 a gallon in as soon as six weeks.

Such a price would approach the record high in South Carolina set in September of 2008 when gas hit $4.12 a gallon.

Prices increase in spring as refiners switch to more expensive anti-smog blends ahead of the summer driving season.

Gas costing $4 a gallon "is a reality check and people start changing their behaviors. We have never been able to live with $4

What do you expect? Our Obama foreign policy is so screwed up that the ME is full of unrest with established governments falling like flies. Saudi Arabia cuts production, Iran shut off France and the U.K. The only bright spot would be our own production and Canada's oil, but Obama totally fucked the Keystone XL and many areas that could be productive in the U.S. are still being slowed or halted. If you want to piss and moan about gas prices, write a fucking letter to the White house.

This could be the most epic post of the 2012 Campaign.

How can someone be so 100% wrong. It's amazing to see.

Proof of lies, whining, pissing and moaning?

Obama is human and not perfect but he is certainly not to be blamed for the things you and your Republican buds attempt to blame on him.

In fact the things you blame on him are still the result of you and your hero Bush ilk of eight years.

Diversion, lies, whining, pissing and moaning not found.

Sure, no one in these forums has ever seen any evidence of it. I must have been mistaken.

"I don't have any reservations that this pipeline is going to get completed," said Russ Girling, the company's chief executive. "The U.S. needs to import some 10 million barrels a day of oil, every day, and currently get it from places like Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria. We're just going to replace that oil with Canadian oil."

Oil over $105 and climbing fast

I believe oil will certainly surpass the last record which I think was $147?

National average for gas will surpass $5 as well which will cause many righties on here to go out of their minds because they said that would never happen.

Gas at the local station is $3.85. The last time I filled up my truck was in early October and I still have a 1/4 tank of gas, so it's not a big concern for me.
