This thread is now about my ticket (orignally asking if cops showed up in court to dispute tickets)

Cliffs:

-I'm 16.
-Parents wanted me out of their house (no details sry) and called cops
-Cops asked me to leave
-I refused.
-Cop + his partner tried forcing me out.
-Didnt work. Called backup.
-Got my ass kicked by 5 cops.

Got fined $75 for trespassing and spent a night in jail (for 'Breach of Peace')....I know I'm fortunate I didnt get booked for resisting arrest or something more severe.

However, I really do not have the $$ to pay.

Options at this point
1) Plea guilty - Voluntary Payment
2) Plea guilty - Submissions to Penalty
3) Plea not guilty (perhaps hope the cop is a no-show)

What should I do?

Edit:
Just to clarify, this is completely unrelated to my past marijuana usage. I have since stopped pot cold turkey to improve athletic performance.

Edit 2:
On the ticket it states I violated the "Trespass to Property Act 2 (1) (b)"
(b) does not leave the premises immediately after he or she is directed to do so by the occupier of the premises or a person authorized by the occupier,

is guilty of an offence and on conviction is liable to a fine of not more than $2,000. R.S.O. 1990, c. T.21, s. 2 (1).
Does this sound right?

They usually schedule all their tickets for the same court time.

Actually when I went to my "court date" I didn't even see a judge, it was just the cop reducing the tickets himself.

is this a real question? i mean this seems really silly. Yes they show up (very very rarely do they not show up) since they get paid for it.

You can say that is true for every jurisdiction. I think most departments will make the effort. But if you have a department that is scaled down down for budget reasons... traffic court is a low priority. But I could imagine cops never showing up... the courts would be overwhelmed with people trying to get out of tickets.

I understand that calling the court and saying you are sick will get your court date rescheduled, and will greatly reduce the odds of the officer showing up in court
(Never tried this).
I once scheduled mine for a night court in Oakland, almost every ticket was dismissed, including mine.
Fight all tickets-screw the system.

This has worked for me every time I ever got a ticket. I always bounce the date 3 or 4 times and also if possible move the venue far from the original courthouse.

It depends on the department, the officer, the city, the time of year, etc.

im pretty sure i asked a question similar to this, and Jlee said that yes the cop will show up because they get paid overtime for going to court.

I went to court and the officer didn't show. All the defendent no shows were called first, probably to get the officers out of there ASAP. All the officer no shows were called last, probably to give the officers time to show up. There were also a couple of guys writing down the names of the officer no shows probably to turn them in. This was in the late 80's. A computer rats you out for a no show these days I'm sure.

they make it so the ticketing officer shows up one time for several tickets. If you reschedule in MA, you have to submit paper work proving that you cannot show up. Yes, they get paid OT. Best you can hope for, especially for today, is a reduction in ticket.

Our court days are scheduled on days we are working, so yes we show up. If it is a felony or other case that gets pushed to one of our off days we get paid OT to go. Not going to court is one way get shown the door in a big hurry. They tend to frown upon Officers getting a show cause order from the judge because you didn't show.

Why wouldn't they get paid? Another stupid question. The officer is on the clock sitting in the court room.

Okay, I actually did not see that one coming. Need more details, OP.

I'm 16. Told to leave the house by a cop (parents wanted me out). I refused.

Cop + his partner tried forcing me out. Didnt work. Called backup. Got my ass kicked by 5 cops.

Got fined $75 for trespassing and spent a night in jail (for 'Breach of Peace') I'm happy I didnt get booked for resisting arrest or something more sever.

However, I really do not have the $$ to pay.

I think this is funny though.

We the taxpayers pay for officers to show up in court (wasted money).
Usually there's a reduction or if you're lucky you get off for the crime (less revenue).

So essentially fighting a ticket is a double loss for our communities. I think the right thing to do is that if we're gonna take a cut in revenue by reducing fines, we shouldn't be spewing out more money to cops simultaneously :D

I feel like you've started a couple troll threads recently and I feel this one is no different.
