hey,
thanks to all who helped me with the swtich to linux, it was super easy to install, i decided to go with fedora core 4.

I'm now trying to install new programs, updates etc. but i'm not suer what program i should be using.

i don't understnad the difference between yum and apt-get. they both can be used with fedora no? Also what programs like up2date or synaptic? I would prefer a gui to a text based interface.

so yum it is then? thanks fellas,

i think it is a bit harder than "yum update". I have been reading i need some livna rpn to enable mp3 support and whatnot. What is all of this hoopla about synaptic and apt-get? would it not really apply to me?

wouldn't check update only give me a list of updates for the packages currently on my system? it wouldn't show me packages that i don't have installed yet would it?
