People go way overboard on powersupplies. I'm typeing this on machine that consists of a Winchester at 2.43ghz, x800xt-pe, 2gb of PC3200, two harddives, two optical drives, an Audigy 2, TV tuner and various other odds and ends, all being run on an old 330w Enenermax 20pin powersupply. A bad powersupply can cause all sorts of trouble, but massive wattage is just plain overkill for most systems.

Haha, they look like bombs.

You could power more than two of my computers with that thing :)

Exactly what I was thinking. Get a couple dozen power splitters and you could run a computer lab with those.

I like that statement ;). Rare are those who would need that kind of power right now .

1000W output, but draws 1400W? Geez, 400W just BAM, gone. Lost to heat. So there you go, at full power, this thing serves as a 400W space heater by itself, not counting what you'll also get from the rest of the computer.
It's still 71.43% efficient...not absolutely horrid. But still, wow, just seems like a lot of power going away. If you can afford that PSU, hook it up with some peltiers to harvest some of the lost heat. :)

I would still rather just mod two, and use that. A lot cheaper too most likely.

And when they come out with one that is 1400w @ 12% effeciency, that will the be Hummer of PSUs.

Man, and the cables aren't even sleeved when you get it, they could've at least done that much for you if you are gonna pay for something that excessive. I wonder who will even be able to use that thing, i think the maximum PC dream machine was only drawing around 550-600 watts, and that's 2 dual core opterons, 2 7800GTX cards, and 5 hard drives. How the hell do you use 1000 watts?

We should move to a new standard for PSU power measurement: horsepower! Then we can brag about how many horses we have in our rig. That is not a 1000 watt PSU, it is a 1.34 horsepower PSU!

New advertising slogan: You can't power a real rig with less than a horse!

:disgust:

seriously overkill...i'd laugh if i see someone actually buying it thinking it's necessary

HAHAHAHA, that power supply wastes as heat the same amount of total wattage that my power supply can output.

People that really need that much PSU couldn't care less about sleeving... But I suppose many will be bought by those compensating for something or with more money than sense.
