Got Classified?

My X79 journey begins...

Loved my X58 setup since 2009 - started with an i7 950 that OC'd to 4.2GHz and was rock solid. Sold that and got a 990X early last year and ran that 4.4GHz - again, rock solid.

I wanted to move to X79 to experience the full capabilities of my new GPUs - the EVGA GTX-680 Classified 4GB.

Of course, some other perks of the new mobo include an on-board LSI controller for some sweet 8x Force GT SSD RAID-0 and USB 3.0 etc. etc.

Will post more pics as the build progresses. 😀

Here is a sneak peek:

Nice build, but those Classy cards are meh, sadly. At least as far as what you get for what you're paying.

Hopefully you're playing on more than one screen though? 🙂

Don't really see the point of going from X58 to X79 LOL for you will not be getting more frames per second because of it effectively you went into debt for nothing but enjoy your new rig 🙂

Wow! Very impressive. I've always preferred EVGA. This is proably what all of those cool E3 demos were run on.

Boss setup, would of been better off with 4 MSI 680 Lightnings IMO, other than that would of done the same. Very nice.

Yea, hopefully the EVBot will help some. Either way, I need 4GB of VRAM; that's why I got the Classifieds. I had 4 GTX-580 Classified 3GB on my X58 system before moving to the X79 platform.

Reason for 4GB VRAM 🙂D): 3x Dell U3011 @ 8100x1600..

With all that why not go all the way with custom water loop?

At least an H100?

I wanted to get the H100 but the top panel of my case (Mountain Mods Ascension CYO) is too close to the top of the Classified GPUs.. if I put the radiator AND fans there, it will definitely hit (or be too close). So I played it safe with teh H80.

Also, never done "custom" water cooling and never will.. don't want to deal with all the hassle (leak test etc. etc.). My rigs are ALL air-cooled only.. first time trying "water" with the H80. XD

That makes me sad. Rig like that screams for water. Impeccable beast hardware needs impeccable beast cooling. You definitely like a nice looking rig with that case you have 😀

Should do the water thing. I love it. Most of the fun was just putting it together and making the system look badass.

I'm so jealous. Definitely a nice system you are going for. For the RAID 0, are you going with the on-board or a separate card?

Now the big question is what did you do with the 580's? 🙂
Also, do you ship to Canada?

680s don't really benefit from water though, maybe slightly but not at all worth the cost or effort.

7970s would be a different story.

Nice.
The rig will benefit from having blower style air coolers in a 4 gpu stack.
Keep the progress coming !

He has classifieds + EV Bot so he definitely would benefit from water  MSI lightning 680 waterblocks are coming out next week too. Can't wait!

But in general, aside from those 680s and the asus DC2T with VGA hotwire -- water isn't a big benefit for OCing

Blower style coolers actual underperformed as compared towards the coolers that vent into the case. Don't believe me then check and see how many aftermarket "High Performance" air coolers have non blower style coolers.
