"even automatics? :p" - UberDave 10/14/2002 12:38 AMBTW, why do I NEVER hear of any "twisty" races in these go-karts? Nobody expects them to keep up with American muscle on the straights, but as they say, "They can handle the twisties!"

Me and some friends went bowling one night about a year ago and were coming back kinda late, around 1 am or so. I was driving my 1991 Dodge Grand Minivan SE with one other person and four other people were packed into a 1997ish Ford Escort. I was following them up to a red light and then pulled up beside them. Knowing we both have lame-ass vehicles for racing we just started revving our engines (both were automatics, lol, so I just stepped on the brake and put it in neutral). Light turned green and my van actually took off pretty fast, probably 0 - 60 in 8 or 9 secs. Either I had forgotten, or I never really thought about it in the first place, but my van actually had a supercharged 3.5L V6 under the hood. I think the Escort had some 4 cylinder setup, so we wasted them pretty badly. After hitting 90 or so on a 45 - 50 road, I let off the gas and slowed down a lot before the next intersection :). The race was still on to get to the house first, so I kept a good speed up, but not extremely fast. Made the transition from in-town surface streets to out-of-town country roads and stepped it up a tad. But they still beat me to the house in the Escort! They took a different route with a steep rail road crossing, which should have kept their speed down to 30 or 40 for a minute or two, but apparently they took the crossing at 70 or 80 =O and cleared a little bit of air. Good thing their suspension was still in tact though...
